Safe Passages serves over 5,000 children and families annually through our strategies that span the age continuum of birth through young adulthood, including Early Childhood, School Linked Services, Juvenile Justice, Career Pathways, and Equitable Public Health Access. Safe Passages' work is based on the premises that access to educational opportunity, health services, and family support should not be dictated by race or socio-economic status, and that healthy and supported young people are better prepared to learn and succeed.
Safe Passages' After School Programs provide quality enrichment and academic support services delivered with a strong youth development framework. Safe Passages is a leading provider in the delivery of school-based After School Programs within the Oakland Unified School District (OUSD).
Primary Responsibilities:
The After School Program Assistant Coordinator will work under the direction supervision of the After School Program Coordinator, with additional reporting responsibility to the AmeriCorps Director. This position supports school-based After School programs and provides administrative assistance to monitor and ensure compliance with Safe Passages' (and OUSD's) policies and procedures.
Responsibilities:
  • Work closely with the After School Program Coordinator, after school providers, and school staff to support After School programming and to implement student assessment and other evaluation tools
  • Coach sports and other recreational activities during After School programming (may include some Saturdays for team sports games)
  • Assist with enrichment activities and events such as visual and performing arts, technology, leadership, and recreation activities as indicated by Safe Passages staff
  • Supervise and coach school-based AmeriCorps team members
  • Support all transition periods including school day dismissal, snack, academic to enrichment, and program dismissal
  • Assist with family outreach and after school events such as family nights and student showcases/performances
  • Participate in Safe Passages professional development training sessions and monthly After School Team meetings
  • Attend OUSD and School Site Staff meetings
  • Other duties as needed

Necessary Skills and Qualifications:
  • Ability to develop strong relationships and work collaboratively.
  • English skills are required.
  • Communication skills necessary to work with children, young people, school staff, and volunteers
  • Experience working with database systems to input data and generate reports
  • Effective time management and organizational skills
  • Must have at least 48 semester units completed from an accredited college, Bachelor's degree preferred
  • Experience working on an urban school site preferred
  • Clearance of TB test, background (fingerprint) check, and full FDA Approved Covid-19 Vaccination
  • High level of cultural competency
  • Youth development experience preferred

Compensation: 12-month position at a salary range of $45,000 - $55,000 depending on site placement and experience
