The TRiO Student Supports Services (SSS) Director provides leadership, planning, and supervision to the federally funded TRiO SSS program. The TRiO SSS program is a federally funded grant that offers academic and other support services to low-income, first-generation, and/or disabled college students in reaching their academic goals, including college persistence, graduation, and transfer to a four-year college or university.
Responsibilities include, but are not limited to, directing a federal grant program and overseeing the comprehensive provision of service to eligible student participants aimed at enhancing student retention and persistence through graduation/completion. This role involves supervising staff and student employees, managing program data, preparing the annual performance report, and administering the annual budget in strict adherence to federal grant guidelines. The TRiO SSS Director ensures the fulfillment of grant objectives, preparation, and submission of the Annual Performance Reports to the U.S. Department of Education.
The TRiO SSS Director develops services, activities, and policy initiatives that foster a climate supportive of postsecondary student success, and coaches students in goal setting, time management, self-advocacy, and study skills. The Director is skilled at working with individuals in crisis, drawing on knowledge of referral pathways for mental health and basic-needs support to connect students with the resources they need. The Director works effectively with diverse students and staff from a variety of backgrounds, including immigrants, rural communities, BIPOC individuals, women, young men, LGBTQIA+ individuals, veterans, and other populations historically and currently underrepresented and underestimated in postsecondary education. The Director brings personal or professional understanding of the barriers affecting TRIO participants-including first-generation, low-income, and/or disability status-to their leadership of the program.
This position is funded by a U.S. Department of Education grant. The funding for this grant is provided in a five-year cycle, with the new cycle starting September 1, 2026. Lane's TRiO SSS program has been continuously funded since 1997.

Salary/Compensation Statement:
  • The position's full salary range is $80,316 to $118,887. New employees cannot be placed higher than $93,958 (step 5 on the salary grade) due to internal equity. The application is used to determine the initial salary placement for selected candidates. All employment and education history will be considered.
  • Our Management Benefits package includes a generous contribution toward medical, dental and vision insurance, long term disability as well as paid sick leave and vacation time.
  • Lane Community College is considered a qualifying public employer for the purposes of the Public Service Loan Forgiveness Program. Through the Public Service Loan Forgiveness program, full-time employees working at the College may qualify for forgiveness of the remaining balance on Direct Loans after 120 qualifying monthly payments under a qualifying repayment plan. Grant Statement:

Required Qualifications
Required Education:
Master's degree in education, counseling, higher education administration, student affairs, social work, educational leadership, public administration, or a closely related field from an accredited college or university.
Required Experience:
  • Four (4) years of professional program experience which may come from a combination of the following areas: academic advising, counseling, teaching/instruction, or other persistence- and completion-focused student support service delivery in a postsecondary setting.
  • At least three (3) years of experience supervising staff (hiring, training, and evaluating performance), and budget management.
  • At least one (1) year of experience directly administering a federal TRiO program, academic support program, or a similar program serving first-generation, low-income, and/or students with disabilities, with primary responsibilities in budget development, fiscal monitoring, and compliance reporting.
  • Demonstrated experience with program planning, implementation, and evaluation.

Preferred Qualifications
Preferred Education
Terminal degree in education, educational leadership, counseling, student affairs, public administration, or a related field from an accredited college or university.

Position Purpose:
The TRiO SSS Director is responsible for managing all aspects of the federally funded TRiO Student Support Services grant program. The TRiO SSS program provides comprehensive academic and other support services to first-generation, low-income students and students with disabilities. These intensive services are designed to help students reach their academic goals, including college persistence, graduation, and transfer to a four-year college or university.
Essential Functions:
Program Oversight & Compliance
  • Oversee all TRiO SSS activities and administrative functions, including program planning and implementation, financial management, promotion and marketing, student recruitment, retention, and completion, and federally required student tracking.
  • Ensure the program meets all U.S. Department of Education reporting requirements; prepare and submit the Annual Performance Report and other federally mandated documentation on schedule.
  • Lead preparation of the continuation and/or competitive grant application, including needs assessment, objective-setting, and budget narrative.
  • Implement and revise SSS policies and procedures, including student selection criteria, service delivery models, administrative procedures, and program evaluation methods.
  • Conduct regular, comprehensive assessment of student achievement and program outcomes against grant-approved objectives; use findings to drive continuous quality improvement.
  • Ensure accurate, confidential, and audit-ready database and filing systems for student records, service tracking, and outcome reporting.

Budget & Fiscal Administration
  • Develop, monitor, and approve the program budget and expenditures in accordance with college, state, and federal grant requirements.
  • Conduct regular fiscal monitoring to ensure spending aligns with the approved grant budget and timeline; flag and resolve variances proactively.
  • Maintain documentation sufficient to withstand federal program review or audit.

Staff Leadership & Development
  • Recruit, hire, train, supervise, and formally evaluate TRiO SSS professional and student staff, which may include hybrid or remote workers.
  • Lead staff workgroups to carry out program goals and objectives; set clear performance expectations and provide ongoing coaching.
  • Provide staff training and development on academic planning, career advising, transfer planning, financial literacy, and crisis intervention/referral protocols.
  • Ensure staff receive training and development in diversity, equity, and cultural competency to support a respectful working and learning environment.

Student Services & Support
  • Lead the student recruitment, eligibility determination, selection, and orientation/intake process in accordance with federal TRIO eligibility guidelines.
  • Oversee delivery of core student services: academic advising, tutoring coordination, career and transfer advising, mentoring, and financial/economic literacy education.
  • Develop and implement individualized service plans and monitor participant academic progress toward persistence, good academic standing, and graduation/transfer goals.
  • Design and deliver (or oversee delivery of) workshops and curriculum addressing student success skills.
  • Provide crisis intervention and referral for participants, including connecting students to appropriate campus and community resources.

Institutional Leadership & Representation
  • Serve as the primary point of accountability to the U.S. Department of Education for grant compliance and performance.
  • Communicate program goals, objectives, and outcomes to college leadership and the broader campus community.
  • Advocate for and help shape institutional policies and practices that support the retention and success of first-generation, low-income, and disabled students.
  • Represent TRiO SSS on relevant college committees and build collaborative working relationships across Student Affairs and Academic Affairs Divisions.
