Job description

Program Summary:
The purpose of the FMCSD After School Program is to provide services and activities that help students improve in academics, attendance, behavior, promotion rates and graduation rates.
Primary Responsibility:
The student support specialist, under the supervision of the Site Coordinator, supports a group of students throughout the afterschool program to ensure that they are ready to learn and be successful.
General Responsibilities:
  • Maintain effective communication with the Site Coordinator and/or school personnel at the assigned site.
  • Follow direction of Site Coordinator or other manager(s) with respect to policies and procedures, and adhere to program requirements.
  • Lead restorative practices with assigned groups of students, participate in and take responsibility for afterschool program activities at assigned sites.
  • Provide input to academic and enrichment specialists to aid in out-of-school time program planning and design.
  • Meet with parents, students and community members; communicate in a respectful and confidential manner.
  • Identify needed supplies and resources, and inform Site Coordinator.
  • Participate in professional development and program-related training activities.
  • Perform all other duties as assigned by supervisor

Required Qualifications:
  • Ability to communicate effectively to multiple audiences
  • Willingness to work positively with and mentor youth
  • Pass required criminal background checks
  • Ability to perform all tasks identified in this job description
  • Valid driver's license
  • Good physical condition with ability to lift 10 pounds

Preferred Competences:
  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • Experience working in a school- or community-based out-of-school time organization
  • Knowledge of afterschool programs, communities and/or positive youth development
  • CPR and First Aid Certifications
  • Bilingual (English and Spanish)

Physical Requirements: Bending, carrying, climbing, driving, lifting, pushing/pulling, reaching, sitting, standing, walking, be able to lift at least 10 lbs.
