Job description

FACULTY VACANCY ANNOUNCEMENT
New York City College of Technology of the City University of New York (CUNY), a comprehensive college offering associate and bachelor's degree programs in downtown Brooklyn, invites applications for a full-time, tenure-track Assistant Professor in the Dental Hygiene Department, to begin in the Fall 2026 semester.
The Dental Hygiene Department offers an Associate in Applied Science (AAS) degree in Dental Hygiene, which is accredited by the Commission on Dental Accreditation (CODA). The program prepares students for the evolving needs of the dental profession by offering a two-year full-time program with a comprehensive curriculum encompassing all aspects of Dental Hygiene.
In filling this position, the department seeks an experienced dentist with the leadership potential and skills needed to play an important role in the dental hygiene program. The Assistant Professor will provide general oversight and direct supervision of dental hygienists in the college's dental hygiene clinic. The faculty member is expected to be committed to excellence in teaching and contribute service to the Dental Hygiene Department, the School of Professional Studies, the College and the University, in support of their missions. Professional development and scholarly activities, including publications and presentations of research in professional/scientific conferences, is required.
Reporting to the Chair of the Department of Dental Hygiene, the Assistant Professor will be expected to teach courses in the associate degree program, engage in productive scholarship, and provide service to the department, the college and the university. Faculty members are also expected to develop and maintain relationships with professional dental organizations and attend regional and national/international professional and educational conferences such as the Greater New York Dental Meeting, ADA, NYSDA, NYDHA, ADHA and ADEA conferences. In addition to classroom and clinical responsibilities, the position entails office hours for student support and advisement, and administrative duties within the department to promote curriculum enhancement and program excellence. Weekend and evening hours may be required.
Other duties include, but are not limited to:
  • Teaching clinical, laboratory, or lecture courses in Dental Hygiene
  • Preparing quality course material including didactic lectures, clinical/laboratory lesson plans, OSCEs (objective structured clinical examinations) and effective assessment methods designed to meet course objectives and student learning outcomes
  • Evaluating and offering feedback on student projects
  • Preparing students to become the critical thinkers, problem solvers, and lifelong learners before entering the dental hygiene profession
  • Academic advisement, guidance, committee and departmental assignments, and professional development activities
  • Contributions to reaccreditation requirements
  • Service to the College through participation in the activities, projects and committee assignments within the university, college and community groups, School of Professional Studies, and the Dental Hygiene department
  • Service to the professional community through participation in the activities and projects
  • Participation in ongoing student and faculty recruitment activities such as high school visits, conducting open houses, and attending professional activities

QUALIFICATIONS
DDS or DMD degree and NYS dentist license is required. Also required are the ability to teach successfully, demonstrated scholarship or achievement, and ability to cooperate with others for the good of the institution.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
  • A minimum of two years of full-time professional practice
  • Active CPR certification for healthcare providers
  • Vaccinations for healthcare providers as recommended by the CDC
  • Prior teaching experience in a diverse, multicultural setting
  • Membership in the ADA, the state and local components of dental professional organizations
  • Excellent communication skills and dental hygiene clinical skills
  • Strong up-to-date knowledge in the field of Dental Hygiene

COMPENSATION
$76,937 to $94,909. Salary commensurate with education and experience.
*Salaries of eligible employees will be adjusted by 3.5% effective 9/1/26, in accordance with the terms of the PSC-CUNY collective bargaining agreement.
