As a Youth Programs Lead (Afternoon), you will support children ages 7-18 through classes, camps, special events, and childcare programming while helping create exceptional experiences for members and families. You'll take the lead in planning and implementing appropriate age activities, maintaining a safe and organized environment, and fostering positive connections with children, parents, and staff.
This is a part-time position with the opportunity to work additional hours, depending on availability and programming needs. Candidates must be available Monday through Friday between 1:00 PM and 6:30 PM, with flexible start times.
What You'll Do
- Create and maintain a warm, safe, inclusive, and engaging environment for children and families.
- Plan, prepare, and lead weekly curriculum, activities, camps, classes, and special events for youth ages 7-18.
- Facilitate age-appropriate activities that support children's physical, social, emotional, and cognitive development.
- Lead classes, camps, and special events while ensuring a fun and enriching experience for participants.
- Provide exceptional customer service by building positive relationships with children, parents, members, and staff.
- Follow established check-in and check-out procedures and communicate effectively with families.
- Promote and enforce safety standards, child supervision practices, and positive behavior management techniques.
- Maintain clean, organized, and welcoming program spaces.
- Assist with seasonal program guides and help communicate program information through social media and other member communications.
- Participate in staff meetings, trainings, and monthly emergency drills.
- Support childcare operations by preparing activities and crafts, supervising play, serving snacks, assisting with toileting and hygiene needs, and ensuring children's belongings are properly labeled.
- Respond appropriately to children's emotional and developmental needs while maintaining a positive and nurturing environment.
- Uphold all MAC policies, procedures, confidentiality standards, and child safety requirements.
What You'll Bring
- Experience working with school-aged children; one year of related experience preferred.
- Passion for creating positive, engaging experiences for children and families.
- Strong interpersonal, communication, and customer service skills.
- Ability to maintain a calm, patient, and energetic presence in a fast-paced environment.
- Demonstrated ability to build effective relationships with children, parents, members, and colleagues.
- Commitment to child safety, inclusion, and professional conduct.
- First Aid/CPR certification and Recognizing and Reporting Child Abuse & Neglect certification, or the ability to obtain both within 90 days of hire.
- Ability to lift and carry up to 50 pounds and safely perform the physical requirements of the role.
- Reliable attendance and flexibility to support occasional evening and weekend events.
- Ability to successfully pass a background check through the Multnomah Athletic Club.
