POSITION SPECIFICS
The College of Information Sciences and Technology (IST) at The Pennsylvania State University invites applications for a tenure-line faculty position in the newly formed Department of Human-Centered Computing and Social Informatics (HCC&SI), with a focus on Human-Centered Artificial Intelligence (AI). The appointment will be at the assistant professor rank, with an anticipated start date of July 2026 at the University Park campus.
We seek outstanding candidates who will advance Human-Centered AI through high-impact research. Candidates should demonstrate expertise in designing, creating, and/or evaluating AI systems that support human goals, needs, and/or values. Areas of interest include (but are not limited to) human-AI collaboration or teaming, embodied and physical AI, human-robot interaction, intelligent interfaces for complex or dynamical systems (e.g., digital health, autonomous systems), and/or agent-driven interaction.
The successful candidate will be expected to conduct cutting-edge interdisciplinary research; teach undergraduate and graduate courses, including residential, online, and/or hybrid courses; supervise and mentor graduate students; actively pursue external funding to support research activities; engage in service activities at the college and university levels; and collaborate with faculty across the university and industry partners.
Candidates must possess a PhD in informatics, computing, engineering, social sciences, or a related discipline before their appointment start date at Penn State.
