For more than 60 years, Barton & Loguidice, D.P.C., has served the consulting engineering needs of municipal, industrial and institutional clients across the Northeast and Mid-Atlantic regions. We are a growing multi-disciplined firm of professional engineers, architects, environmental scientists, geologists, planners and landscape architects headquartered in Syracuse, NY, with offices throughout New York, Pennsylvania, Maryland, Connecticut and Maine. B&L specializes in transportation engineering, water supply, wastewater management, solid waste management, land planning and site design, environmental services, facilities engineering, land surveying and asset management. We promote a family-oriented culture and proudly focus on supporting innovation and team growth to provide inspired solutions for our clients.
We are seeking a motivated Transportation Planner or Engineer with a minimum of 5 years of experience in multi-modal planning, traffic analysis, or transportation project development. The ideal candidate will support the planning and design of sustainable, safe, and efficient transportation systems for communities across Upstate New York.
This position involves working on a variety of planning and engineering projects-ranging from corridor studies, Complete Streets plans, and bicycle/pedestrian network planning to traffic operations analysis and transportation impact assessments. The role offers opportunities for professional growth, mentorship, and collaboration with public and private sector clients.
Key responsibilities of this role include:
  • Assist in the preparation of transportation and traffic studies, including data collection, analysis, and report writing.
  • Conduct multimodal planning, integrating vehicle, bicycle, pedestrian, and transit elements into corridor and area-wide plans.
  • Use GIS, Synchro, HCS, or similar tools to support modeling, data visualization, and analysis.
  • Contribute to public engagement efforts, including community workshops and public presentations.
  • Prepare clear and concise technical reports, maps, and presentation materials.
  • Support senior staff in project management tasks such as budgeting, scheduling, and client communication.
  • Coordinate with state and local agencies (e.g., NYSDOT, MPOs, and municipalities) on planning initiatives and project reviews.
  • Assist in developing grant applications, planning studies, and long-range transportation plans.

Requirements
Required:
  • Bachelor's degree in Urban Planning, Civil Engineering, Geography, or a related field.
  • Approximately 5 years of relevant professional experience in transportation or traffic planning.
  • Working knowledge of transportation analysis tools (Synchro, HCS, VISSIM, or GIS).
  • Strong technical writing, analytical, and communication skills.
  • Understanding of Complete Streets, context-sensitive design, and sustainable mobility principles.
  • Familiarity with NYSDOT procedures, MPO planning processes, and local municipal review standards.

Preferred:
  • Master's degree in Urban or Transportation Planning, or a related discipline.
  • Certification as AICP, EIT, or working toward PTOE licensure.
  • Experience with public engagement and stakeholder coordination.
  • Prior consulting or public agency experience in Upstate New York.

Estimated Pay Range: $95,000 - $112,000/year.
Actual compensation may vary based on related work experience, geographical location and market conditions, education/training, certifications, and other credentials, as well as applicable knowledge and skills.
