Job description

Job Title

Under general supervision, performs professional nursing and health related services of moderate difficulty to prisoners within the Yuma County Detention Center. This position has department specific responsibility.

Examples Of Work

Works under the supervision of a Registered Nurse or a physician; assists with health assessments, screenings, and prisoners care plans; assists with communicable diseases and reports their existence to the appropriate health authorities; provides medications and treatments as prescribed by a physician; provides daily nursing, first aid, and emergency medical care and treatment; collects prisoners' history, medical records and prescription data; prepares, documents, files and maintains health records/charts relating to diagnosis, treatment and progress; administers Hepatitis shots, TB tests, blood samples and processes specimens to the laboratory; orders and maintains medication and medical equipment; coordinates medical services with other health providers; provides health-related education and counseling, as needed; maintains a clean, safe, and secure work environment; participates in cost containment measures; regular and reliable attendance is required; performs other duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications & Requirements

Must possess a current valid State of Arizona Practical Nurse (LPN) license at time of appointment and one (1) year of clinical nursing experience, preferably in a Corrections/Detention Center setting; OR an equivalent combination of education, training and experience which demonstrates the ability to perform the duties of the position. Additional requirements: This classification requires the applicant to successfully complete a background check, polygraph, and drug test prior to appointment; must possess and maintain a valid driver's license; and the ability to work all three shifts (days, afternoons, and graveyards), holidays, and weekends.
