Key Responsibilities

  • Engage in big data-related projects across the multiple services VHB provides to our diverse client base
  • Mine and analyze complex structured/unstructured data sets using highly advanced statistical methods to help with data-driven decision making
  • Develop and maintain dashboards and websites that support large databases, facilitate complex search queries, and enhance various business functions leveraging probe data
  • Develop innovative approaches to modify and build new data processes, and build large, complex data sets ensuring data integrity and statistical accuracy.
  • Design, develop, test, validate, and analyze models and advanced algorithms to extract optimal value from the data
  • Develop and apply customized algorithms or models to key business metrics with the goal of improving operations or answering business questions. Implement automated processes for efficiently producing scalable models
  • Interpret results, predict future data trends and other data foresights, and propose strategic business solutions
  • Train and mentor the data management team and other VHB subject matter experts on new or updated procedures

Skills and Attributes

Data Management & Analysis:

  • Proficiency in managing large datasets and understanding data structures.
  • Statistical analysis experience
  • Prescriptive and predictive analysis for operations, planning, and decision making

Technical Skills:

  • Experience with tools and software such as Databricks, SQL, and data visualization platforms such as Power BI.
  • Working with large spatial and non-spatial datasets, API's, web services, cloud data platforms
  • Data manipulation skills using various scripting languages like Python or R.
  • Strong ETL process experience

Communication Skills:

  • Demonstrated ability to articulate, both verbally and in written form, complex technical concepts clearly and effectively to both technical and non-technical stakeholders

Industry Knowledge:

  • Experience with connected vehicle and cell phone data such as INRIX, RITIS, HERE, and TomTom
  • Awareness of industry-specific regulations and data privacy concerns

Certifications

  • Relevant certifications such as CDMP (Certified Data Management Professional) or equivalent
  • Databricks accreditation or certification

Minimum Qualifications

  • Minimum of 3+ years of experience with advanced analytics in the engineering/transportation industry specifically providing services to DOTs, transportation agencies and/or state and federal governments
  • Master's degree in Data Science, Business Analytics, Computer Science, Statistics, Mathematics, or equivalent discipline
  • Applicants must be legally authorized to work for VHB in the U.S. without employer sponsorship

The base salary range for this position is $98,500 - 148,000 for the Washington DC, New York City and Massachusetts locations. This offer is determined based on a number of job-related factors including internal comparators, skills, education, training, credentials, experience, scope and complexity of role responsibilities and geographic location.
