Seattle, WA • On-site

Job description
Note: This is a full-time ACC AmeriCorps position with the Seattle Housing Authority.
About the American Connection Corps:
The American Connection Corps (ACC), an AmeriCorps program of Lead For America (LFA), is a service fellowship program aimed at helping communities build the digital connectivity necessary to expand opportunity and economic mobility, ranging from healthcare access to quality employment.
ACC Members spend a year serving with locally-rooted organizations, helping address the digital divide and strengthen access to opportunity. Through their service, they gain hands-on experience, build in-demand skills, and explore career pathways while making a tangible impact in their communities.
About the Seattle Housing Authority
The mission of the Seattle Housing Authority is to enhance the Seattle community by creating and sustaining decent, safe and affordable living environments that foster stability and self-sufficiency for people with low incomes.
Position Overview
The AmeriCorps Digital Learning Assistant supports digital access and learning in lowincome housing communities. This role ensures computer labs are welcoming, functional, and wellmaintained while helping residents build confidence with technology. The position also strengthens community engagement by recruiting and training resident volunteers, supporting digital navigation needs, and maintaining essential technology systems such as mobile lab checkout apps.
All activities will be performed under the guidance and supervision of program staff.
Key Responsibilities
The ACC Member will:
- Lab Management - Assist staff with operating and maintaining computer labs in low income housing communities, ensuring spaces are welcoming, functional, and accessible.
- Volunteer Recruitment - At staff direction, train and support resident volunteers to support lab operations and maintain consistent open hours.
- Volunteer Training - Train volunteers to open, monitor, and assist in the labs, including basic troubleshooting and resident support.
- Resident Support - Provide basic help with computer use, email setup, printing, and simple troubleshooting.
- Digital Skills Instruction - Assist residents in learning foundational computer skills such as navigation, typing, internet use, and accessing online services.
- Digital Navigation - Support residents with digital navigation services, including accessing benefits, job applications, and online housing resources by providing information, coaching, and referrals as appropriate.
- Device Maintenance - Assist staff with performing basic updates on desktops, laptops, and tablets to keep equipment secure and functioning well.
- Mobile Lab Management - Assist staff with maintaining and supporting the mobile lab app used for device checkout and tracking.
- App Maintenance - Assist staff with maintaining and updating approved service tracking applications used to support program operations and ensure accurate service data.
The AmeriCorps Member serves in a direct service and capacity-building role. The Member may not independently manage computer lab operations, supervise staff or volunteers, perform advanced information technology administration, engage in fundraising or grant writing, or perform duties that duplicate, displace, or supplant employees or contractors.
Learning & Development Opportunities
As an ACC Member, you will receive structured training and support throughout your service year, including:
- A two-week-long virtual orientation with the national cohort to kick off the service year.
- A week-long, in-person national Winter Institute convening with your ACC cohort - travel, lodging, and a per diem stipend are fully covered.
- Twice-monthly virtual training on skills for service, including project management, asset-based community development, grant writing, and serving vulnerable populations, plus self-paced curricula with opportunities to earn badges and credentials.
- A structured community listening tour at the start of service to understand local needs, assets, and opportunities.
- Dedicated 1:1 support from a Lead For America Program Coordinator and twice-monthly peer pod meetings for networking and professional development.
- Access to a national network of ACC Members, alumni, and community partners.
Requirements
- Passion for community service and connecting your neighbors to the digital tools, skills, and opportunities they need to thrive.
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to work independently and collaboratively within a team.
- Interest in gaining experience in community development or digital inclusion.
Eligibility:
- Be a U.S. Citizen, National, or Lawful Permanent Resident.
- Hold a high school diploma or GED equivalent.
- Be 17 years of age or older by the start of service.
- Have not already served four (4) or more AmeriCorps State/National terms.
