Job description

Nitta Gelatin, a leading multi-site manufacturing company, is looking for a Lab Technician in our Schiller Park IL. location.
This position will be responsible for all day-to-day operations in the lab. This position reports directly to the QA Manager,
Nitta Gelatin is a global manufacturer of gelatin and collagen peptides with over 100 years of history. Our company focuses on harnessing natural collagen to produce a variety of products for use in numerous food, nutritional and pharmaceutical applications. We are a diverse and dynamic company focused on providing our customers with exceptional quality and customer service.
  • SPECIFIC DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Detail orientation.
  • Daily use of computer skills (database entry, word processing, spreadsheets).
  • Good organizational and time management skills.
  • High personal integrity.
  • Ability to carefully follow procedures.
  • Ability to evaluate collagens to grade odor and flavor.
  • Pleasant team-oriented personality.
  • Good eye-hand coordination in using a stopwatch to obtain accurate test results.
  • Food production background preferred.
  • Perform routine testing of gelatins and collagens including taste and odor grading.
  • Take sterile samples of incoming, work in process, and finished products.
  • Work with production workers to obtain laboratory samples.
  • Monitor daily test results and notify QA Manager as necessary to ensure customer specification compliance.
  • Maintain a document database for lab test data.
  • Maintain stock of all laboratory test materials and supplies.
  • Maintain a clean and organized laboratory working environment.
  • Perform all tasks in compliance with current Good Manufacturing Practices regulations.
  • Maintain organized quality related paperwork and electronic files.
  • Interface with outside laboratories to arrange pick-ups, or information.
  • Work with Quality Manager to find solutions to customer complaints/inquiries.
  • Launder and maintain lab related items in onsite washing area.
  • Must follow food safety regulations.
  • Responsible for adhering to and upholding the company's food safety and quality policies. This includes understanding the relevant procedures, ensuring compliance in daily operations, and actively contributing to a culture of food safety and quality. Employee must report any concerns or deviations from these policies to their supervisor immediately.
  • Other duties as assigned.

  • EDUCATION REQUIRED

High school diploma or GED.
  • TRAINING AND SPECIALIZED KNOWLEDGE PREFERRED

6 months experience in quality or laboratory operations preferred
6 months experience in food industry GMP knowledge preferred
Intermediate Computer skills in Word, Excel, and ability to learn to use databases as required by the position.
  • EXPERIENCE PRFERRED

6 months prior experience in food or pharma laboratories or quality assurance
  • PHYSICAL DEMANDS

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to stand; walk; use hands to handle, or feel; reach with hands and arms; and stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl. The employee is occasionally required to sit. The employee must frequently lift and/or move up to 50 pounds.
