A Unique Opportunity: Wildlife Medicine
Few veterinary positions offer the chance to work alongside a dedicated wildlife rehabilitation team.
Houston SPCA's Wildlife Center cares for thousands of injured, orphaned, and displaced native Texas wildlife patients each year. Veterinarians have opportunities to diagnose, treat, and support the rehabilitation of a wide variety of species, providing a rare and rewarding extension to traditional companion animal practice. If you've ever dreamed of adding wildlife medicine to your veterinary career while still maintaining a strong small-animal caseload, this position offers a truly unique opportunity.

What You'll Do
  • Provide compassionate medical care for animals in need
  • Triage and stabilize emergency patients
  • Diagnose and treat a variety of species
  • Perform high-quality, high-volume spay/neuter surgeries
  • Perform elective and non-elective surgical procedures
  • Maintain accurate medical records
  • Steward controlled substances
  • Supervise and mentor Veterinary Technicians
  • Teach and support Texas A amp;M College of Veterinary Medicine Shelter Medicine students
  • Educate clients, staff, volunteers, and stakeholders
  • Assist with animal cruelty investigations through medical evaluation, forensic documentation, and expert testimony
  • Serve as an ambassador for Houston SPCA and its mission
