Job description

The Babcock & Wilcox Construction Company (BWCC), a global leader in energy and environmental technologies for power and industrial markets, is seeking a Technical Design Intern to join our Akron, Ohio headquarters. This internship provides hands on experience working with engineering, proposals, and project execution teams who deliver high quality products and services to customers worldwide.

This intern will work closely with the Construction Technology Group within BWCC, gaining exposure to heavy construction planning tools and methodologies. This includes learning to develop rigging arrangements, crane plans, lift layouts, and other technical documents that support engineering and operations during project planning and execution.

  • Apply education and training to assist senior designers in solving structural and rigging arrangement problems with economic designs.

  • Develop experience using 2D and 3D CAD technology (AutoCAD and/or SolidWorks) to prepare basic rigging arrangement drawings, 3D models, and assembly/details for component parts and shop or field fabrication.

  • Assist senior designers in creating site layout drawings for project planning and development purposes,

  • Learn and apply crane knowledge and information to assist Operations in lift planning and coordination and creating crane layout drawings

  • Learn to determine appropriate views, sections, and orientation on drawings to be made for the purpose of showing necessary information in the most effective manner.

  • Learn to develop material requirements to develop effective for rigging plans.

  • Learn how to apply company and industry standards and procedures

  • Attend status meetings and training as required.

  • Perform all other duties as assigned.

  • Pursuing a Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering or Civil Engineering

  • 1-2 years of relevant experience preferred, but not required.

  • AutoCAD and SolidWorks experience preferred

  • Ability and willingness to learn and apply sound engineering design principles to assigned tasks.

  • Strong collaboration skills with the ability to effectively interact with project teams.

  • Excellent critical thinking, time management, and organizational capabilities.

  • High level of attention to detail with strong written and verbal communication skills.

  • Strong proficiency in Microsoft Office, including Excel and PowerPoint.
