Location: Richmond, VA (On-site; potential hybrid after tax season)

Overview

A growing public accounting firm is seeking an experienced Tax Accountant (CPA) to join its team. This role focuses on tax preparation, tax planning, client advisory, and review responsibilities. The ideal candidate is detail-oriented, client-facing, and comfortable working in a collaborative environment.

Key Responsibilities
  • Prepare and review business and individual tax returns

  • Manage end-to-end tax return processes and client data

  • Provide tax planning support and advisory to clients

  • Conduct tax planning kickoff, implementation, and quarterly review calls

  • Review work prepared by staff accountants/bookkeepers

  • Delegate client work appropriately to junior staff

  • Record tax entries within client accounting systems and identify potential issues

  • Stay current on tax law changes and IRS updates

  • Research tax strategies applicable to client situations

  • Assist with entity extension deadlines

  • Prepare financial statements as needed

Required Qualifications
  • CPA required

  • 5-10 years of accounting and tax experience

  • Strong knowledge of GAAP and tax basis accounting

  • Experience preparing returns: 1040, 1041, 1120, 1120S, 1065, 990

  • Proficiency with accounting/tax software (e.g., Thomson Reuters Suite, QuickBooks, Xero)

  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills
