Job description

The Site Director is responsible for providing leadership, guidance, effective communication, and maintaining the overall well-being and safety of Y After School participants and support staff. They should possess high energy, and enthusiasm, genuinely enjoy working with children and be team-oriented. The Site Director is responsible for the planning, implantation, and facilitation of a structured and highly engaging summer camp. The Site Director must be positive, with a patient and respectful demeanor towards campers, parents, coworkers, and Y After School administration. All staff is expected to be interactive and engaging with the children throughout the day. This includes standing for long periods and participating in physical activities both indoors and outdoors.

Essential Functions

  1. Manages all staff and Y After School participants and is responsible for the overall health and well-being of the Y After School program. Provides careful, attentive supervision; alert at all times.
  2. Responsible for the proper documentation of Y After School attendance.
  3. Manages Y After School site and equipment, assuring the proper use and care of school property (c.8., space, equipment, supplies).
  4. Manages program activities, ensuring they are engaging, developmentally appropriate, and consistent with YMCA values.
  5. Maintains a safe, clean Y After School Program, adhering to licensing protocol.
  6. Attends trainings held by Y After School administration, and conducts weekly staff meetings with summer camp staff.
  7. Follows YMCA policies and procedures, including those related to medical emergencies, behavior policy implementation, child abuse prevention, and all other emergency situations.
  8. Cultivates positive relationships and maintains effective communication with parents, children, and other staff. Models relationship-building skills in all interactions.
  9. Maintains ongoing communication with Y After School adininistration.
  10. Manages the setup and clean-up after all camp activities.
  11. Performs other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

  • Must be at least 21 years of age or older.
  • Have at least 48 semester hours, of which 12 hours are in a child-related field, Child Development, (or otherwise meet licensing standards)
  • 1 year of programmatic experience with children, preferably in an after school setting.
  • Must complete 16 hours of training to meet the licensing standards of a licensed child day center.
  • Leadership skills.
  • Preferred CPR/First-Aid. If not certified, will receive training through the YMCA.
  • Exceptional group management, problem-solving and conflict resolution skills.
  • Experience in creating, planning, and facilitating interactive and educational/artistic activities relating to youth development, pliysical fitness, and academic enrichment.
  • Love working with children.
  • Must possess speaking, listening and writing skills appropriate for interacting with both children and adults.
  • Must be capable of implementing directives related to daily programming.
  • Must have flexibility and the ability to adapt to changing circumstances.
  • Demonstrate a working knowledge of YMCA mission, purpose and goals, childcare policies and YMCA standards, ensuring the program meets the highest standards of excellence.
