School Age Teacher Assistant

Hours:

  • Option 1: Monday–Friday, 12:00 PM – 6:00 PM (Floating & School Age) OR
  • Option 2: Monday–Friday, 3:00 PM – 6:00 PM (School Age)

Position Summary
Rich Beginnings Child Care Center is seeking a caring, dependable, and energetic School Age Teacher Assistant to join our team. This position is ideal for someone who enjoys working with school-age children in a fun, engaging environment while also supporting classrooms throughout the center as needed.

Depending on the scheduled hours, this role may include assisting in various classrooms during the afternoon before transitioning to the School Age program, or working exclusively with our School Age children during after-school hours.

Additional Summer Hours Available
This position offers the opportunity for additional hours during the summer months by working in our Summer Camp program. Summer schedules may include full-time or extended daytime hours, providing applicants with the opportunity to increase their weekly hours while assisting the lead School Age teacher in leading fun activities, field trips, and engaging experiences for school-age children.

Responsibilities12:00 PM – 6:00 PM Position
  • Float between classrooms, assisting teachers with supervision, activities, transitions, and daily routines.
  • Provide support during lunch, nap, playground, and classroom activities as needed.
  • Help maintain a clean, organized, and safe classroom environment.
  • Transition to the School Age classroom in the afternoon to assist with the after-school program.
  • Supervise children during indoor and outdoor play.
  • Assist with homework support, games, crafts, STEM activities, and recreational programming.
  • Help prepare afternoon snacks and ensure children follow health and safety practices.
  • Assist with cleaning and closing duties at the end of the day.
  • Communicate professionally with parents during pick-up.
3:00 PM – 6:00 PM Position
  • Welcome children arriving from school.
  • Supervise and engage school-age children in age-appropriate activities.
  • Encourage positive social interactions and model respectful behavior.
  • Assist with homework when needed.
  • Prepare and serve afternoon snacks.
  • Maintain a safe, organized, and engaging classroom environment.
  • Complete daily cleaning and closing responsibilities for the School Age classroom.
  • Assist with cleaning and closing duties at the end of the day.
  • Communicate professionally with parents during pick-up.
Qualifications
  • Experience working with children is preferred but not necessary.
  • Must be reliable, punctual, and dependable.
  • Positive attitude and strong teamwork skills.
  • Ability to build positive relationships with children, families, and coworkers.
  • Excellent communication and organizational skills.
  • Ability to meet the physical demands of working in a childcare setting, including standing, lifting up to 40 pounds, and participating in active play.
  • Must successfully complete all NYS OCFS background clearances and required pre-employment screenings.
  • Must be 18 years old.
