About New York Junior Tennis & Learning


New York Junior Tennis and Learning (NYJTL) is one of the largest afterschool tennis and education-themed community organizations in the United States. We offer comprehensive school and community-based programs throughout New York City’s five boroughs, serving more than 85,000 youth ages 5-18 every year.


The NYJTL afterschool program provides children with safe and nurturing environments in which they can learn and thrive academically, while receiving critical support to reach their potential both on and off the tennis court. The NYJTL afterschool program operates in elementary, middle and high schools located in the Bronx, Brooklyn, Manhattan and Queens. NYJTL is seeking bright, dedicated individuals who have a strong interest in working with afterschool programs.




Position Summary

The Assistant Site Director helps guide all functions of a site's daily programming, ensuring that all participants and staff are safe and engaged. Teaming with the Site Director, they are on-site before children arrive and are there throughout the duration of the afterschool program to ensure that the logistical needs of the program are met. They must have a strong commitment to youth development, and be willing to learn and implement new strategies to inspire students to be positive, thoughtful, and motivated to work hard. They are supported by, and collaborate regularly with our passionate Group Leaders and Activity Specialists.

Core Responsibilities

  • Support the smooth daily operation of the afterschool program at a given site

  • Ensure regular attendance by participants

  • Ensure staff provides a positive learning experience to youth

  • Maintain accurate and current staff, program and participant records

  • Assist with staff hiring as-needed

  • Participate in NYJTL city-wide program events and training sessions

  • Perform other duties and responsibilities as assigned


Qualifications

  • Associate Degree (or 60 credits on college transcript) in Child Development, Elementary Education, Physical Education or a related field

  • 2+ years experience working with elementary or middle school-aged children with diverse backgrounds

  • Availability Monday - Friday, 1:00pm - 6:00pm during the school year and some school holidays

  • Evidence of strong leadership, project & data management, and organizational skills

  • Excellent staff management and administrative skills

  • Excellent knowledge of youth development and education

  • Must be able to develop and implement age-appropriate curricula, consistently innovating and improving program quality

  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (primarily Word and Excel)

  • Knowledge of DYCD and DOH mandates required, knowledge of DYCD/YouthServices.net preferable
