The Academic Tutor is responsible for creating enrichment activities in literacy and math for students in grades K-4. Tutors will complete lesson plans and prepare enrichment materials based on each grade level's academic needs. Tutor-to-student ratio should not exceed 1:10. Tutors are responsible for academic enrichment as well as adhering to OCFS guidelines and site rules and expectations.
The schedule typically looks like:
2:30 -3 PM: Lesson planning, gathering materials, communicating with program staff.
3 - 3:30 PM: Supervise students in the cafeteria while they have snack and listen to the rules and expectations for the day.
3:30 - 4:15 PM: Provide your first group of students with an engaging lesson and activity.
4:15 - 5 PM: Provide your second group of students with an engaging lesson and activity.
5 - 5:30 PM: Supervise students during free time in the gym or other area. Clean up your space and prepare for the next day.
Key Responsibilities:
- Tutors may be responsible for assisting students with homework.
- Foster a positive, encouraging learning environment.
- Develop and deliver engaging lessons to support skills being taught in the classroom.
- Adapt teaching strategies to meet diverse student needs.
- Maintain a respectful and well-managed classroom.
Qualifications:
- Must be 18 years or older
- Strong behavior management skills
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills
- Flexible and adaptable to student needs
- Reliable and punctual
- Bilingual (Spanish and English) is a plus
- Experience in tutoring, teaching, or mentoring (preferred)
