Miami Children's Museum is seeking a dedicated and passionate Certified Afterschool Teacher to join our team at Liberty City Elementary! This role is perfect for an experienced educator who wants to make a direct impact on students’ reading development while supporting an engaging afterschool program.


As a Certified Afterschool Teacher, you’ll provide targeted reading instruction, train and guide staff in literacy practices, and ensure that students of all levels have the tools to grow, thrive, and succeed.


What You'll Do

  • Supervise and ensure the safety and wellbeing of children in your care.
  • Provide small-group or one-on-one instruction for students identified as needing reading support, based on assessment results.
  • Develop lesson plans that strengthen phonics, phonemic awareness, fluency, vocabulary, and comprehension skills.
  • Monitor student progress and adjust interventions based on literacy performance outcomes.
  • Train and mentor afterschool staff on how to implement reading curriculum with fidelity.
  • Support staff in applying differentiated instruction strategies across their groups.
  • Maintain accurate records of attendance, lesson plans, and progress for students receiving reading intervention.
  • Model positive conflict resolution, teamwork, and classroom management techniques.
  • Communicate with Site Coordinator, families, and school partners in a professional and positive manner.
  • Attend trainings, complete required coursework, and stay current with best practices in education.
  • Other duties as assigned.
Requirements:
  • Bachelor’s degree or higher in Education or related field.
  • Must hold a State of Florida Teaching Certificate (Reading certification strongly preferred).
  • At least one year of experience leading groups of children in an educational setting (Museum experience a plus).
  • Strong classroom management and organizational skills.
  • Fluent in English (reading, writing, speaking).
  • CPR/First Aid certification (or willingness to obtain).
