Job description

South Newton School Corporation Position Description Position Title: Bus DriverDepartment: TransportationReports To: Transportation Director Summary: Provides a safe trip to and from school for students. Abides by all local, state, and federal laws. Education and/or Experience: High school diploma or equivalent.

Certificates, Licenses, Registrations: Valid CDL driver's license with a Class C endorsement and a good driving record. Bus driver safety course as prescribed by the State of Indiana. Regular Route Drivers Pay Regular route full time bus drivers will be paid for 185 days per year based on their daily rate according to their years of experience on the salary schedule plus $0.22 per loaded mile based on what they turn in at the beginning of the school year

Drivers will have the option to be paid in 20 or 26 pays per year. Drivers will also receive a benefit package for a full time employee. Drivers will receive $6,350 for Single and $9,800 for Family per year to be applied towards health insurance premiums.

Drivers are also provided with a single Vision Insurance Plan, Long Term Disability Plan and a $50,000 Life Insurance policy. The Driver pays $1.00 per year for each plan. Mini Bus Drivers Pay Mini bus trips are considered to be part time positions without benefits

The rate of pay for mini bus drivers will be based on their daily rate according to their years of experience on the salary schedule plus $0.22 per loaded mile based on what is turned in with each bi-weekly payroll. Drivers will be paid bi-weekly after turning in a time sheet. This time sheet must include, but is not limited to, date, nature of trip, time and place of departure, mileage at departure, destination, return time, return mileage, round trip mileage, and total time for trip

One trip is designated as a loop beginning at the driver's first stop until they return home and is generally completed in the morning and the afternoon. The transportation director and the superintendent will determine what constitutes one or more trips. All new mini bus routes must be approved by the Superintendent prior to the start of the route.

Preschool Bus Route Pay The preschool bus route driver will receive $40 per day for the mid day round trip of picking up A.M. preschool students at South Newton and delivering the A.M. class and picking up the P.M

class at their stops in Brook, Goodland, and Kentland and bringing the P.M. class to South Newton. This driver will be paid bi-weekly after turning in a time sheet

This time sheet must include, but is not limited to, date, nature of trip, time and place of departure, mileage at departure, destination, return time, return mileage, round trip mileage, and total time for trip. Activity Bus Route Pay The activity bus route drivers will receive $27.50 per day for the evening activity bus route to Brook, Goodland, and Kentland. These drivers will be paid bi-weekly after turning in a time sheet

This time sheet must include, but is not limited to, date, nature of trip, time and place of departure, mileage at departure, destination, return time, return mileage, round trip mileage, and total time for trip. Alternative School Bus Route Pay The Alternative School bus route driver will receive $40 per day for the route to take students and pick up students at Enos. This driver will be paid bi-weekly after turning in a time sheet.

This time sheet must include, but is not limited to, date, nature of trip, time and place of departure, mileage at departure, destination, return time, return mileage, round trip mileage, and total time for trip. Extra Duty Driving Pay Drivers will receive $50 for any part or all of the first four hours of extra curricular driving. If the length of the trip exceeds four hours, the driver will receive $10 per hour in excess of the four hour period.

Drivers will be paid for driving time and time where the driver is engaged to wait for the return trip. These extra trips will be paid bi-weekly after turning in an extra driving form. Drivers will not be paid for the time between trips if the driver is free to leave the event before returning to take the group to their final departure site.

Approval must be given to the driver by the person in charge of the trip before the driver departs the group. The trip time must be adjusted by the time the driver was not with the group. Overnight Trips On overnight trips, the driver will be paid for his or her actual driving time and $30 per day.

The group will be responsible for the driver's room and board, and for any required related expenses incurred by the driver. Bus Aides Pay Bus aides who are to ride the bus with special need students will be paid $10 per hour for their time on the bus. If the bus aide is employed in the school as a non-certified employee they will receive their regular hourly rate.

These aides will be paid bi-weekly after turning in a time sheet. Bus aides who are asked to sit on a bus for supervision duties for the transportation director will be paid $5 per day. These aides will be paid bi-weekly after turning in a time sheet.

Wheelchair Bus Route Driver Pay Any driver who assists in loading or un-loading a student in a wheelchair will be paid an additional $4 per day. This will be paid bi-weekly after turning in a time sheet. Substitute Bus Drivers Any driver who substitutes for a regular bus route driver will be paid $60 per day.

This will be paid bi-weekly after turning in a time sheet. Engine Block Heaters Drivers will be required to use their engine block heaters on each occasion where it is reasonable to do so. Drivers will be reimbursed $100 for personal expenses associated with the use of the engine block heater.

Reimbursement will be made after the claim is approved at the regular June board meeting.
