Job description

SUMMARY:
Sorts, dries, folds and fills linen and hospital garment orders. Operates industrial ironing/pressing machine.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
Adheres to TMC organizational and department specific safety, sanitation, confidentiality, standards of behavior and values of Compassion, Community, Dedication, and Integrity.
Exhibits excellence in customer service through appropriate attitude and interaction with visitors and staff.
Sorts laundry according to type and condition and weight, and records weight; separates heavily stained or torn garments and routes for rewashing or mending; routes garments for hand finishing; hangs garments or places in pile for distribution to proper department within hospital.
Operates industrial ironing/pressing machine: feeds articles onto feeder belt, smoothes and straightens edges, guides articles to prevent wrinkles, and shakes out and feeds large articles, such as sheets and bedspreads, into ironer.
Performs flatwork finishing; shakes out dry, clean laundry and folds for mangling; works as a catcher and folder after laundry is pressed.
Records the number of linens distributed by department.
Counts and stacks linens for distribution or places them in supply storage; reports linen supply shortages to leads.
Adheres to TMC organizational and department-specific safety, confidentiality, values, policies and standards.
Performs related duties as assigned.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
EDUCATION: High school diploma or GED; or an equivalent combination of relevant education and experience.
EXPERIENCE: No prior experience required.
LICENSURE OR CERTIFICATION: None required
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES:
  • Ability to operate industrial ironing/pressing machine.
  • Ability to neatly fold linens and hospital garments according to protocol.
  • Ability to read or listen and comprehend simple instructions, short correspondence, and memos.
  • Ability to write simple correspondence.
  • Ability to effectively converse and relay information in one-on-one and small group situations to customers, clients, and other employees of the organization.
  • Ability to add and subtract two-digit numbers.
  • Ability to read a clock and accurately document time.
  • Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form.
  • Ability to deal with problems involving several concrete variables in standardized situations.
