Job description

Job Summary

The OST Counselor within the OST Division of the Department responsible is our entry level seasonal position.  This position will assist all levels of OST staff in various functions in all recreational programs, activities, and events.  

Major Job Duties

  1. Assist senior staff members in the day-to-day operations of programs and supervision of participants.
  2. Responsible for equipment needed in different activities—taking out balls, bats, etc. and returning to proper place at the end of activities.
  3. Will help maintain a safe and clean environment.
  4. Will assist with activities when requested to by senior staff members.
  1. Reports all infractions or issues to immediate supervisor.
  2. Assists with the responsibility for the safety and wellbeing of program participants.
  3. May be assigned the task of checking areas at the beginning of the day to make sure they are clean, healthy, and free from hazards.
  1. May assist with special events and activities.
  2. May assist in participant counts periodically throughout the day, including field trips. 
  3. Will perform related duties as required.

Minimum Qualifications

Candidates must be able to satisfy NH work permit requirements. Successful completion of 9th Grade of High School and enrolled in High School or equivalent.

Knowledge and Skills Required

  1. Minimum age of 15 years old.
  2. Must enjoy working with youth and being outside.
  3. Must be able to follow directions from senior staff members.
  4. Certification in CPR/First Aid endorsements from an approved agency.
  5. Must be comfortable in the water and have the ability to swim.

Other Necessary Requirements

The work consists of related specialized duties. Inclement weather contributes to the complexity of the position. The purpose of this position is to perform specialized duties in the provision of indoor/outdoor children’s programming. Successful performance helps ensure the effective delivery of parks and recreation services, thereby improving the quality of life for citizens and enhancing the image of the town.
