Job description

Overview

The duel modality CT and Xray technologist will cover our after hour on call needs for the Radiology department. The technologist will performed various computerized axial tomography and x-ray imaging procedures on various imaging equipment and possibly administering contrast material based on Carle policies and procedures.

Licensed Radiologic Technologist - Radiography - Illinois Emergency Management Agency (IEMA)

Certified Nuclear Medicine Technologist (CNMT) - Nuclear Medicine Technology Certification Board (NMTCB)

And

Registered in Computed Tomography (CT) within 1 year - American Registry of Radiologic Technologists (ARRT)

And

Basic Life Support (BLS) within 30 days - American Heart Association (AHA)

Specialized Knowledge and Skills Requirements

Ability to perform both CT and Xray imaging.


Responsibilities

Essential Functions

Performs computerized axial tomography procedures and assign invasive procedures by acquiring and processing patient exams in accordance with accreting bodies and / or manufacturer guidelines and as outlined in department protocols. This includes performing multiplanar reformats and /or 3D rendered images independently. Reviews cases with the Radiologist when appropriate. reviews labs and patient history to perform correct exam. Administers IV contrast, and oral/rectal contrast when appropriate. Recognizes and responds to any adverse reactions or allergic reactions. Screens the patient for possibility of pregnancy and performs pregnancy testing if applicable.

Ensures patient, visitor and environmental safety. Reports safety events immediately including those that are a near miss.

Assists in instruction of students and new staff as necessary. May perform duties of CT Lead or Imaging Coordinator in his/her absence.

Meets productivity levels as established by department benchmarking. Assists other areas during downtimes so to maintain productivity.

May be required to preform duties of other modalities within the department to which licensers are held by the technologist.

Complies with other job descriptions of cross-trained modalities also performed within the department.

Department Specific Job Function

Able to respond and be ready to work within 30 minutes of being alerted by Carle that they are needed for their shift.

Performs computerized axial tomography procedures and assigned invasive procedures by acquiring and processing patient exams as outlined in department protocols including performing multi-planar reformats and/or 3D rendered images independently. Reviews case with the radiologist when appropriate.

Administers IV Contrast syringes, and oral/rectal contrasts when appropriate and recognizes and responds to any adverse reactions or allergic reactions. Administers IV contrast material by means of existing IV line or by preforming veni-puncture and placing IV line.

Responsible to review radiology orders for completeness and accuracy. Reviews patient history and supporting clinical data for medical necessity. Takes steps to acquire additional information if needed from the patient, ordering provider and /or Radiologist.

Demonstrates acceptable imaging quality standards by critiquing positioning, technical factors and alignment. Reviews patient data for accuracy, quality and completeness.

Transfers and verifies image data in PACS and provides necessary medical history and information for Radiologist interpretation. Utilizes the web server/ EA viewer and email system to send exams for preliminary readings after hours.

Responsible for maintaining imaging equipment and workplace environment including maintaining supply inventories and orderliness of work area. Recognizes malfunctions and service needs and reports service needs in a timely manner.

Compensation and Benefits
The compensation range for this position is $35.5per hour - $61.06per hour. This represents a good faith minimum and maximum range for the role at the time of posting by Carle Health. The actual compensation offered a candidate will be dependent on a variety of factors including, but not limited to, the candidate's experience, qualifications, location, training, licenses, shifts worked and compensation model.
