What You'll Be Doing
Paraprofessionals in our Improvement District will work with individual pupils or groups of pupils on special instructional projects, providing the teacher with information about pupils that will assist the teacher in the development of appropriate learning experiences. They will assist pupils in the use of available instructional resources and assist in the development of instructional materials. Paraprofessionals will be able to utilize their own special skills and abilities by assisting in instructional programs in such areas as: foreign languages, arts, crafts, music and similar subjects. Paraprofessionals will assist in related instructional work as required.
While under the general supervision of a teacher, Paraprofessionals will be expected to perform such duties as:
  • working with small groups of children so the teacher can work with a large group or individual children;
  • helping a teacher to construct a lesson plan;
  • presenting segments of lesson plans, as directed by the teacher;
  • communicating with parents of students at a school site or as otherwise directed by a teacher; and
  • helping a teacher to train other teaching assistants.
What Our Schools Are Looking For
Schools in the New Visions Affinity District are looking for candidates who are dedicated to working collaboratively with others to achieve common goals and are passionate about driving student success. Position requirements include:
  • High School Diploma or GED required (60+ college credits or an Associate's Degree strongly preferred)
  • Valid New York State Teaching Assistant Certificate, to be obtained by September

Salary Range
$34,222 - $56,726
NYC Public Schools calculates starting salaries based on education, years of service and UFT contract scales. This is a 10-month position with salary annualized over 12 months, ensuring consistent pay during school breaks and summer.
