Project Engineer

Location: Cheshire, CT, USA

We are seeking a detail-oriented Aerospace Project Engineer to help drive the development, certification, and delivery of high-quality aviation components. This role is ideal for an engineer who enjoys solving complex technical problems, collaborating across teams, and supporting projects from concept through regulatory approval and production readiness.


About the Role

As a Project Engineer, you will manage and coordinate engineering and technical projects to ensure they are completed on time, within scope, and within budget. You will contribute to planning, execution, documentation, certification support, and continuous improvement efforts while applying strong technical expertise and project management discipline.


What Youโ€™ll Do

  • Develop key design and substantiation packages for FAA-PMA applications.
  • Reverse engineer and troubleshoot electrical and mechanical aircraft components.
  • Use automatic and manual measuring techniques to capture and document dimensional data.
  • Establish measurement tolerances using accepted industry practices and review of next higher assembly fit.
  • Create, revise, and review designs using CAD software, materials science considerations, metrology plans, and related engineering inputs.
  • Prepare documentation required for regulatory certification, including transmittal letters, certification plans, test plans, and substantiation reports.
  • Research technical requirements and collaborate with subject matter experts to evaluate, select, and adapt procedures for design changes and problem resolution.
  • Review aircraft instructions and other aviation technical information for continued airworthiness to define and adapt project requirements.
  • Support supply chain development of manufacturing methods and processes, including vendor identification and selection, purchasing requirements, and drawing interpretation.
  • Provide engineering support for quality-related questions involving drawing interpretation, manufacturing inspection methods, and customer feedback.
  • Coordinate First Article and project conformity inspection activities across Supply Chain, Quality, Engineering, FAA representatives, and management.
  • Participate in root cause corrective action and preventive action initiatives.
  • Prepare technical packages according to customer or operator requirements.

What Weโ€™re Looking For

  • Bachelorโ€™s degree in a technical discipline.
  • 3+ years of experience supporting the realization of engineered products, including drawing creation, supplier selection, and quality activities related to product conformity.
  • Strong organizational skills with meticulous attention to detail.
  • Ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously while applying strong critical thinking and problem-solving skills.
  • Strong technical capability, including technical writing, CAD programming, GD&T, and ASME Y14.5 drawing methodologies.
  • Working knowledge of quality inspection methods, including automatic and manual measuring equipment.
  • Knowledge of basic manufacturing methods such as milling, turning, grinding, and brazing.
  • Ability to understand FAA certification requirements and other civil aviation authority requirements.
  • Reverse engineering product development experience.
