What does an aerospace product support engineer do?

An Aerospace Product Support Engineer is responsible for ensuring the ongoing performance, maintenance, and reliability of aerospace products such as aircraft, satellites, or related systems. They serve as the primary point of contact for technical issues after a product has been delivered to the customer, providing troubleshooting, updates, and support. Their work may involve coordinating repairs, analyzing system failures, developing maintenance procedures, and training clients or maintenance crews. These engineers also collaborate with design and manufacturing teams to recommend product improvements based on field experience.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as an aerospace product support engineer?

To thrive as an Aerospace Product Support Engineer, you need a solid background in aerospace engineering, systems troubleshooting, and technical documentation, typically supported by a bachelor's degree in engineering or a related field. Familiarity with industry-specific tools such as CAD software, maintenance management systems, and regulatory compliance certifications like FAA or EASA is often required. Excellent problem-solving, communication, and customer service skills help you effectively address client issues and collaborate with multidisciplinary teams. These capabilities ensure timely resolution of technical problems and sustained customer satisfaction with complex aerospace products.

What are the main challenges aerospace product support engineers face when coordinating with cross-functional teams?

Aerospace Product Support Engineers often work closely with engineering, manufacturing, and customer service teams to resolve product issues and implement solutions. A common challenge is ensuring clear and timely communication across departments with different priorities and technical backgrounds. Balancing urgent customer needs with long-term reliability improvements can also be demanding. Successful engineers develop strong collaboration skills, adapt quickly to shifting project requirements, and maintain a proactive approach to problem-solving.

    Job description

    Product Support Engineer
    Eagan, MN | $30 - 55/hr | Contract to Hire | On-Site
Konik is partnering with a local engineering firm seeking to add a Product Support Engineer to join their team at an entry, senior or principal level. As a Product Support Engineer, you'll play a key role in making sure complex products and systems for the defense industry remain safe, reliable, maintainable, and cost-effective throughout their entire lifecycle. You'll influence design decisions, define maintenance strategies, and manage long-term risks like obsolescence—all while ensuring technical data and documentation are accurate, clear, and user-friendly.
This is a collaborative role where you'll work closely with engineers, technical writers, and program stakeholders to bridge the gap between design, sustainment, and the end user. If you are a mechanically inclined individual who enjoys working in an analytical, cross-functional setting supporting complex electromechanical products, you are encouraged to apply!
    Product Support Engineer Responsibilities:

    • Perform logistics analyses to define spares, provisioning, and maintenance strategies.
    • Influence system and component design for maintainability, reliability, and lifecycle cost efficiency.
    • Develop, review, and maintain CDRLs, provisioning files, and logistics support documentation.
    • Collaborate with engineering, publications, and cross-functional teams to ensure data integrity.
    • Monitor and address obsolescence risks (DMSMS) throughout program lifecycles.
    • Validate technical publications and Interactive Electronic Technical Manuals (IETM) for accuracy and usability.
    • Provide input for supportability, reliability, and safety analyses (LORA, FMECA, MTBF, MTTR, RAM).
    • Prepare and deliver sustainment metrics, dashboards, and lifecycle sustainment plans.
    • Support technical writers and artists in creating accurate maintenance manuals.
    • Participate in provisioning conferences, RCM reviews, and customer sustainment discussions.

    Product Support Engineer
    Qualifications:

    • Bachelor's in Engineering, Physics, or related technical field.
    • Entry-level candidates with an engineering background will be considered; 3-7 years of experience for senior level; 8-12+ years of experience for principal level.
    • Strong analytical, problem-solving, and data analysis skills; ideal prospects will have a strong mechanical inclination.
    • Experience with technical documentation review, provisioning data, sustainment planning, and developing procedures in secure settings.
    • Proficiency with Microsoft Office and collaboration platforms (SharePoint, Teams).
    • Ideal candidate will have prior experience in a technical customer-facing role.
    • Defense, aerospace, or related industry experience is a plus.
    • This position requires individuals to be able to obtain security clearance to be considered. To obtain clearance, an individual must be a US citizen.

    Benefits:

    • Health & Dental Insurance
    • Minnesota Earned Sick & Safe Time
    • Overtime Eligibility
    • Weekly paychecks
