In this role, you will develop, optimize, and sustain composite repair and layup processes that directly impact product quality, performance, turnaround time, and delivery. Your expertise will help ensure the structural integrity and reliability of composite aerospace components while driving continuous improvement across manufacturing operations.

Work That Matters

At Chromalloy, your work directly supports aviation safety and reliability. Our teams repair and manufacture critical aerospace components used across the global aviation industry. Whether you're improving processes, supporting operations, solving technical challenges, or driving business performance, your contributions help keep aircraft flying safely around the world.

Location: Windsor, CT

Travel: Occasional travel required

Schedule: On-site

What You’ll Be Doing

  • Develop, qualify, and optimize composite layup and repair processes for aerospace gas turbine engine components.
  • Create and improve procedures for a variety of composite repair methods to ensure structural integrity, quality, and repeatability.
  • Provide day-to-day engineering support for production operations, including monitoring yield, reducing rework, and improving process capability.
  • Evaluate nonconforming product, perform root cause analysis, and implement corrective actions to drive sustainable process improvements.
  • Lead activities to ensure production readiness of composite manufacturing and repair equipment.
  • Design, develop, and implement tooling, fixtures, and gauging solutions that improve safety, quality, and operational efficiency.
  • Create and maintain process documentation, including operating procedures, work instructions, process specifications, calibration instructions, training materials, and quality records.
  • Provide technical support for the implementation and validation of new composite repair technologies and manufacturing methods.
  • Support employee training on equipment operation, process controls, and composite repair best practices.
  • Partner with maintenance teams to develop and sustain preventive maintenance programs for critical process equipment.
  • Participate in Kaizen events, Lean Manufacturing initiatives, and Six Sigma projects to improve safety, quality, delivery, and cost performance.
  • Apply DMAIC and structured problem-solving methodologies to drive continuous improvement and process optimization.

What We’re Looking For

  • Bachelor’s degree in Engineering or a related science-based discipline such as Materials Science, Chemistry, or Physics.
  • 3+ years of engineering experience in a manufacturing environment; aerospace manufacturing, MRO, or gas turbine component repair experience preferred.
  • Experience supporting composite manufacturing, composite repair, or advanced materials processes.
  • Understanding of composite materials, manufacturing processes, and repair methodologies.
  • Knowledge of root cause analysis, corrective action systems, and continuous improvement methodologies.
  • Experience supporting production operations and cross-functional manufacturing teams.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills with the ability to collaborate across operations, quality, engineering, and maintenance functions.

Nice to Have

  • Experience with pre-preg composite patching and wet layup applications.
  • Knowledge of composite materials and structures, including:
    • Fiberglass
    • Kevlar®
    • Honeycomb core structures
    • Aerospace resin systems
  • Understanding of composite curing, bonding, and repair validation methods.
  • Working knowledge of 3D CAD software such as Siemens NX.
  • Experience developing tooling and fixtures to support composite manufacturing or repair operations.
  • Experience supporting aerospace component repair, overhaul, or manufacturing operations.
  • Lean Six Sigma Green Belt certification or participation in Kaizen events.
  • Familiarity with aerospace quality systems, engineering specifications, and process control methodologies

Work Environment & Physical Requirements

  • Work is performed in both office and manufacturing environments with exposure to production equipment, machinery, and industrial processes.
  • Regular interaction with production areas, laboratories, and repair operations is required.
  • Ability to stand, walk, bend, reach, and move throughout manufacturing facilities for extended periods.
