Essential Duties And Responsibilities (include but not limited to)

The person in this position plans, directs, and coordinates the work of survey staff, engaged in surveying earth's surface and preparing maps, legal descriptions, exhibits, and reports of land by performing the following duties personally or through subordinate supervisors. A supervisory classification would be warranted for staff with experience and capability to oversee office and field operations and coordinate staff toward the production of survey deliverables, such as mapping and mapping review tasks, field observations, and coordination with other surveyors of record.

* Act as City/County Surveyor for counties and cities throughout California's Central Valley and Sierra regions, and beyond.

* Subdivision and Parcel Map Checking

* Lot Line Adjustment document checking

* Lot Mergers document checking

* Easement and Right-of-Way Acquisition and Vacation document checking

* Preparation of easement and right-of-way legal descriptions and plats

* Ability to respond to questions and recommend appropriate administration of the Subdivision Map Act and Professional Land Surveyor's Act.

* Coordinate subconsultant field and office survey work.

* Work with various divisions (engineers and architects) within Willdan to provide necessary services, such as boundary and topo, aerial photogrammetry, preparation of legal descriptions and plat maps, coordination of appraisal and acquisition services.

* Legal work - Provide law firms, title companies, and cities technical expertise in the review of defective title, reformation of deeds, expert witness.

* Providing technical guidance and support to surveying staff.

* Monitoring project budgets and timelines to ensure efficiency and profitability.

* Ensuring the quality and accuracy of survey data and deliverables.

* Oversees office survey staff. Monitors employee development.


The City/County Surveyor provides survey map and document checking services, along with consultation support for Public Works and Planning Departments. The selected individual will perform professional review, oversight, and advisory services in compliance with the California Subdivision Map Act, Professional Land Surveyor's Act, applicable county ordinances, and industry best practices.


Job Requirements

* Bachelor's degree (B.A.) from four-year college or university, or equivalent work experience.

* Active California Professional Land Surveyor (PLS) license.

* At least 10 years of progressive professional land surveying experience.

* Extensive background in subdivision mapping (major and minor) and subdivision processes.

* Demonstrated experience with preparation and review of legal descriptions, lot line adjustments and lot mergers, right-of-way engineering, easements, Records of Survey, and Corner Records.

* Prior experience serving as a city or County Surveyor is strongly preferred.
