As of Jun 15, 2026, the average weekly pay for aerial groundman in the United States is $1,522.62, according to ZipRecruiter salary data. Most workers in this role earn between $1,269.23 and $1,692.31 per week, depending on experience, location, and employer.

What are Aerial Groundmen?

Aerial Groundmen are essential support workers in the utility and telecommunications industries, responsible for assisting lineworkers who install, maintain, or repair overhead power lines and cables. They work on the ground to prepare materials, operate equipment, and ensure safety procedures are followed during aerial work. Their duties may include handling tools, passing materials to workers on poles or bucket trucks, and maintaining clear communication with the crew. This role requires physical stamina, attention to safety, and the ability to work in various weather conditions. Aerial Groundmen play a critical part in keeping electrical and communication systems running smoothly.

What job makes $10,000 a month without a degree?

An Aerial Groundman in the utility or telecommunications industry can earn around $10,000 per month with experience and specialized skills, such as operating heavy equipment and working at heights. High earnings are often associated with overtime, certifications, and working in hazardous environments, but a formal degree is typically not required for this role.

What jobs pay $500,000 a year in the US?

Aerial Groundmen typically do not earn $500,000 annually; such high salaries are usually found in executive, medical, or specialized professional roles. High-paying jobs often require advanced skills, extensive experience, or ownership of a business. For most workers, salaries of this level are rare and usually associated with top executives or successful entrepreneurs.

What are some typical challenges an Aerial Groundman faces when supporting linemen in the field?

Aerial Groundmen often work outdoors in various weather conditions and must maintain constant communication with linemen working overhead. One of the main challenges is ensuring the safe and efficient transfer of tools and materials up and down utility poles while adhering to strict safety protocols. The role also requires quick problem-solving skills to address unexpected issues, such as equipment malfunctions or sudden changes in the work environment. Additionally, Groundmen must be attentive and proactive, as their support is crucial to the success and safety of the entire crew.

Do I need a CDL to be a groundman?

Aerial groundmen typically do not need a Commercial Driver's License (CDL) to perform their job, as they usually do not operate large commercial vehicles. However, if the job requires driving specialized trucks or equipment, a CDL may be necessary. Employers may also require safety certifications or training specific to utility work.

What is the difference between Aerial Groundman vs Lineman?

AspectAerial GroundmanLineman
CertificationsOSHA safety training, CDL often preferredOSHA safety training, CDL often required
Work EnvironmentAssist with equipment, ground work, safety spotterClimbing poles, installing and repairing lines
Industry UsageUtility companies, telecom, power linesUtility companies, power distribution, telecom

The Aerial Groundman primarily supports linemen by handling ground tasks, operating equipment, and ensuring safety. Linemen perform the actual installation, maintenance, and repair of power or telecom lines, often working at heights. Both roles require safety certifications and are essential in utility work, but the Groundman focuses on ground support, while the Lineman handles the line work itself.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as an Aerial Groundman, and why are they important?

To thrive as an Aerial Groundman, you need a solid understanding of utility line work, basic electrical safety, and physical fitness, often supported by a high school diploma or equivalent. Familiarity with hand tools, rigging equipment, and sometimes a Commercial Driver’s License (CDL) are typically required. Strong teamwork, communication, and situational awareness help you excel in supporting linemen and ensuring job site safety. These skills are crucial for maintaining efficient operations and preventing accidents in a hazardous work environment.

What jobs pay 2000 a day?

Aerial Groundmen typically do not earn $2000 a day; such high daily wages are more common in specialized roles like certain construction managers, project directors, or high-level consultants. Skilled trades or executive positions in industries like oil and gas, finance, or technology may reach this level with experience and certifications. Most jobs paying this amount require significant expertise, responsibility, and often long hours or high-risk environments.
