Advisory Board information

What is an advisory board?

An advisory board is a group of individuals selected to provide strategic advice, expertise, and guidance to an organization or company. Unlike a board of directors, an advisory board does not have formal decision-making authority or fiduciary responsibility. Instead, its members offer insights, recommendations, and support based on their experience in relevant fields to help the organization achieve its goals. Advisory boards can be especially valuable for startups, nonprofits, and growing businesses seeking diverse perspectives. Members typically meet periodically and serve in a consultative capacity.

What is the difference between Advisory Board vs Advisory Committee?

AspectAdvisory BoardAdvisory Committee
RoleProvides strategic advice and expertise to leadershipOffers recommendations on specific projects or issues
StructureTypically a standing group with ongoing responsibilitiesOften temporary or project-specific
Work EnvironmentFormal, ongoing engagement with senior managementCollaborative, focused on particular tasks
CredentialsExpertise in industry, leadership experienceSubject matter experts, relevant credentials depending on focus

While both groups provide valuable advice, an Advisory Board offers ongoing strategic guidance to an organization, whereas an Advisory Committee focuses on specific issues or projects. Understanding these differences helps organizations select the right advisory structure for their needs.

What Does an Advisory Board Do?

An advisory board is an informal group of individuals that offers advice, helps make decisions, or provides leadership that is in the best interest of a foundation. In many cases, the committee members of an advisory board are external to an organization. This type of group provides neutral insight for efficient and effective decisions. Executives then test certain decisions and fine-tune concepts before bringing them to a board of directors. An advisory board or committee can be created to provide service to a CEO, a division president, or a focus group for sales, product development, or another business aspect.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as an Advisory Board member, and why are they important?

To thrive as an Advisory Board member, you need in-depth industry expertise, strategic thinking, and a track record of leadership or executive experience. Familiarity with business analytics tools, governance frameworks, and sometimes professional certifications (such as board governance training) are valuable. Strong communication, collaborative problem-solving, and sound judgment are crucial soft skills in this role. These competencies enable board members to provide insightful guidance, foster organizational growth, and uphold effective governance.

What are some common challenges faced by professionals serving on an Advisory Board, and how can they be addressed?

Advisory Board members often encounter challenges such as aligning diverse perspectives, maintaining effective communication with leadership, and ensuring their advice is both actionable and relevant. Navigating the balance between providing strategic input and respecting management’s autonomy can also be complex. To address these challenges, it is important to establish clear expectations, foster open dialogue, and stay informed about the organization's goals and industry trends. Regularly scheduled meetings and collaborative tools can further enhance engagement and impact.

  • Base Salary: $80,000 - $92,000
  • Monthly Performance Bonus: $7,000 - $18,000 annually (paid monthly)

Job Overview
BlueSprig is a clinician-led ABA organization built on the belief that strong client outcomes come from supporting the people delivering care. We are growing the clinical team and looking for a Board Certified Behavior Analyst (BCBA) ready to take ownership of a caseload. In this position you'll set the clinical direction - building treatment plans, running assessments, supervising BTs and RBTs, coaching parents, and collaborating with our clinical committees on the harder cases. The clinicians who do best here are the ones who want their expertise to count, who want a real career path, and who want to be part of pushing the field forward through SprigLAB research and conference work.
Core Duties
  • Run functional behavior assessments and update programming as data and clinical reasoning dictate.
  • Coach parents and family members so therapy gains translate into the home environment.
  • Create and manage tailored treatment plans built specifically for each client - never off-the-shelf templates.
  • Stay aligned with every BACB ethical guideline, state rule, and payer-specific requirement.
  • Train and direct Behavior Technicians (BTs) and Registered Behavior Technicians (RBTs) to provide outstanding ABA services.
  • Work with our compassion-centered clinical committees to share clinical know-how and raise care quality.
  • Strengthen a culture focused on ethics and client results, not direct-service-hour counts.

Perks and Benefits
  • 25 PTO days every year
  • Monthly bonus plan paying out up to $18,000 in extra earnings annually
  • Complete benefits package, wellness programs, and 401(k) matching contributions
  • Up to $1,000 available via a Professional Development Stipend
  • Membership in five clinical committees alongside industry leaders
  • Annual pay increases tied to merit
  • Bonuses for referring new BTs, RBTs, and BCBAs to the team
  • Hybrid model with one work-from-home day each week (where center operations allow)
  • On-demand access to a library of 100+ no-cost CEUs
  • Up to 26 live CEU events annually, including our Annual Clinical Conference

Essential Qualifications
  • Strong understanding of BACB ethics requirements together with the relevant state and payer rules.
  • Up-to-date BCBA or BCaBA certification through the BACB (or up-to-date RBT certification alongside active graduate work toward BCBA certification).
  • Able to successfully complete a background check covering criminal record and driving history.
  • Master's degree in Applied Behavior Analysis, Psychology, Education, or a related academic field (for BCBA-certified candidates).

Bonus Qualifications
  • Enthusiasm for involvement in applied research or for presenting at industry-related conferences.
  • Experience constructing parent and caregiver training initiatives.
  • Strong communication skills, both in writing and in person, for family partnerships and treatment documentation.
  • Past supervisory work with behavior technicians or RBTs inside a center-based ABA practice.

Why Clinicians Choose BlueSprig
  • Growth That's Real - Build your career on clinical or operational pathways within our nation-spanning network, with rare opportunities to engage in pioneering research through SprigLAB.
  • Real Clinical Independence - Treatment direction is yours to call. Shape treatment plans around real client needs, not boilerplate templates, drawing fully on what your training and experience can offer.
  • Backing You Can Feel - Collaborate with compassion-focused clinical committees and pull from a robust set of resources, tools, and goal banks designed to support your best work.
  • Ethics Always Comes First - Care quality is something we refuse to compromise on. We follow every BACB, state, and payer rule and prioritize substantive supervision and parent partnership over racking up direct-service hours.
