Job description

The Office of Research which also includes: The College of Engineering (CoEng), College of Business and Public Policy (CBPP), Institute of Social and Economic Research (ISER), Community Technical College (CTC), Business Enterprise Institute (BEI), and the School of Education (SoEd) are seeking qualified candidates to join a Research Technician hiring pool. Selected applicants will be considered for research technician positions as project needs arise across these academic and research units.
Research Technicians support sponsored research projects involving applied and fundamental scientific research. Responsibilities may include collecting, organizing, synthesizing, archiving, and distributing research data; providing technical and administrative support; assisting with laboratory or office-based research activities; and participating in fieldwork as required. Specific duties and work assignments will vary depending on the needs of each project.
This position offers the opportunity to contribute to diverse research initiatives while working with multidisciplinary teams in a dynamic academic environment. Candidates should be adaptable, detail-oriented, and capable of supporting research activities in both field and office settings. Qualified applicants will remain in the hiring pool and may be contacted as suitable opportunities become available.
Knowledge of basic research methods, data collection procedures, and research ethics. Ability to collect, organize, and maintain accurate research data and records. Skill in conducting literature searches and summarizing scientific or technical information. Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications and other standard computer software, with the ability to learn research-specific databases and software. Strong organizational and time management skills with the ability to prioritize multiple tasks and meet deadlines. Excellent written and verbal communication skills. Ability to work independently with minimal supervision as well as collaboratively in a team environment. Strong attention to detail, analytical thinking, and problem-solving skills. Ability to maintain confidentiality and handle sensitive information in accordance with applicable policies and procedures.
Typical Experience Varies by level of Position Need.
RT1: Entry level (high school + 6 months' experience)
RT2: 1 year of college + 1 year of experience
RT3: 2 years of college + 2 years of experience
RT4: Bachelor's degree + 4 years of experience
Minimum Qualifications:
TYPICAL EDUCATION OR TRAINING VARIES BY LEVEL OF POSITION NEED.
RT1: High school diploma or equivalent and six (6) months of experience in a field relevant to the research program, or an equivalent combination of education, training, and experience.
RT2: One (1) year of relevant college coursework and one (1) year of experience in a field relevant to the research program, or an equivalent combination of education, training, and experience.
RT3: Two (2) years of relevant college coursework and two (2) years of experience in a field relevant to the research program, or an equivalent combination of education, training, and experience.
RT4: Bachelor's degree in a relevant field and four (4) years of experience in a field relevant to the research program, or an equivalent combination of education, training, and experience.
Position Details:
This is a part-time, non-exempt temporary position. New Hires will be place on the Temporary Salary Schedule at a Grade and Step determined by education, experience, and training.
