Position Overview

The Optical Assembler plays a critical role in the production of high-performance optical components and assemblies used in military systems, advanced imaging and sensing equipment. Many of the products built in this role support mission-critical equipment – including ruggedized optics, low-light imaging devices, and components integrated into defense, surveillance and field-deployed platforms.

This position requires exceptional attention to detail, steady hands, and a disciplined approach to following technical work instructions. You will assemble, align, inspect and verify optical components that must perform reliably in demanding environments, from extreme temperatures to high-vibration field conditions.

This role is ideal for someone who takes pride in craftsmanship, thrives in a clean, controlled manufacturing environment, and understands the responsibility of building components that professionals depend on in real-world operations.


Key Responsibilities:

  • Assemble precision optical components and mechanical subassemblies using specialized tools and fixtures to meet daily production targets.
  • Performa fine alignment of optical elements using microscopes, interferometers and laser alignment systems.
  • Apply adhesives, epoxies and bonding agents with controlled volume and placement, following cure schedules and handling requirements.
  • Install mechanical fasteners to exact specifications to maintain optical alignment and structural integrity.
  • Inspect incoming and in-process optical components for defects such as scratches, digs, chips, coating issues and contamination.
  • Verify optical performance using test equipment such as interferometers, MTF benches, spectrophotometers and optical comparators.
  • Document inspection results and maintain traceability through travelers, routers, or ERP system.
  • Identify nonconformance's and collaborate with quality and manufacturing engineering to resolve issues.
  • Follow detailed work instructions, assembly drawings, and standard operating procedures (SOPs) with zero deviation.
  • Maintain cleanroom environment standards.
  • Record production data accurately, including lot numbers, serial numbers, material usage and process steps.
  • Support continuous improvement initiatives by providing feedback on tooling, processes, and documentation.



Required Skills & Qualifications:

  • High School Diploma/GED Required.
  • 1–3 years of experience in a manufacturing environment, including hands-on assembly, micro-assembly, or similar precision work. Candidates with other precision, hands-on experience demonstrating strong attention to detail and manual dexterity will also be considered.
  • Strong manual dexterity and ability to work with small, delicate components under magnification.
  • Strong attention to detail, consistency, and process discipline.
  • Ability to read and interpret technical drawings, schematics, and work instructions
  • Experience in optical assembly or working with precision optical components a plus.
  • Familiarity with optical handling, cleaning, and contamination-controlled practices.
  • Comfortable working in a cleanroom or controlled environment.
  • Experience with ISO 9001 quality systems a plus.
  • Familiarity with computers and ERP systems for recording production data.

Work Environment & Physical Demands

  • Work is performed in a cleanroom and manufacturing environment with exposure to moving equipment, moderate to loud noise, and materials such as oils, solvents, and cleaning agents
  • Requires use of appropriate personal protective equipment, including safety glasses and cleanroom garments
  • Position involves a combination of standing, walking, and sitting for extended periods, along with occasional stooping, kneeling, and reaching
  • Frequent use of hands for handling and assembling small components requiring fine motor coordination and dexterity
  • Sustained visual focus is required, including close-up and magnified work, with the ability to identify fine detail and adjust focus as needed
  • Regular use of computers and standard assembly or inspection tools
  • Ability to lift up to 50 lbs. as needed
  • Work may shift between stations and may require schedule flexibility, including overtime or weekend work based on production needs

Monday - Friday, 6am - 2:30pm
B Shift: Mon - Fri 2pm - 10:30pm
Training to be conducted on A shift for 2 - 4 weeks before transitioning to B shift schedule
