Job description

Job Type
Full-time
Description
We're seeking an experienced Pump Mechanic for our Indianapolis service center. This role is approximately 70% shop-based and focused on hands-on tear-down, rebuild, and testing of industrial pumps and rotating equipment - not general maintenance. Occasional field work includes troubleshooting, alignments, and installing or pulling equipment.
*This role is with Fischer Process Industries , a division of Tencarva Machinery Company .
About Fischer & Tencarva
Fischer Process Industries , founded in 1957, is a distributor and service provider of pumps and fluid process equipment, with locations in Loveland/Cincinnati, Indianapolis, and Owensboro, KY. Fischer became part of Tencarva in 2022.
Tencarva is a distributor, engineering and design partner, and OEM-authorized repair network within the process equipment/flow control market. With 38 locations across 17 states, Tencarva & Fischer provide end-to-end, whole-system solutions for over 18,000 active customers across many verticals, including industrial, municipal water/wastewater, power generation, oil/gas, mining/aggregates, and automotive. Our service offerings include system analysis and design, applications engineering, custom fabrication of equipment packages, automation and controls, equipment remanufacturing, and thermal hard coatings.
The Role
This is a rebuild-focused position - not a production maintenance role. You will disassemble, inspect, diagnose, rebuild, and test a variety of industrial pumps and rotating equipment to OEM standards.
You will regularly work on:
  • Self-priming centrifugal pumps
  • Mag drive pumps
  • Vertical turbine pumps
  • Air-operated diaphragm pumps

*Gorman-Rupp is primary pump line
*Occasional work on other types of pumps and rotating process equipment, including gearboxes, blowers, motors, valves, mixers/agitators, etc.
Key Responsibilities:
  • Disassemble and inspect customer equipment
  • Diagnose root cause of failure
  • Prepare repair scopes and parts requirements
  • Rebuild pumps and rotating equipment to OEM standards
  • Replace bearings, seals, shafts, impellers, and wear components
  • Perform laser alignment
  • Assist with field troubleshooting, equipment removal, installation, and start-up
  • Maintain a clean, organized, and safety-focused shop environment
  • Coordinate with service & sales leadership on job timelines and parts requirements.

Please note : This is a hands-on industrial pump repair and rebuild role within an OEM-authorized service center - not a general maintenance technician position.
Why Join Fischer/Tencarva
  • Day shift, Monday-Friday schedule; occasional evenings or weekends only for customer emergencies
  • Long-term company stability - Tencarva (founded in 1978) has never had a layoff and does not manage downturns by cutting people
  • Stable, steady workload - not seasonal or project-based
  • Family-oriented culture that understands/respects life outside of work
  • Primarily shop-based work
  • Big-company resources with a small shop feel
  • Real opportunity to grow into increased responsibility over time

We take pride in doing quality work and standing behind our repairs/remans. While we move with urgency for our customers, we do not run a high-pressure production shop or sacrifice quality for speed. Our expectations of our mechanics are high, but realistic and sustainable.
Benefits Include:
  • Paid Time Off, including 10 holidays
  • Health Insurance, including medical, dental, vision, disability, and life
  • 401(k) with Profit Sharing
  • Employee Assistance Program

Requirements
Qualifications:
  • 2+ years of hands-on industrial pump repair, rebuild, or rotating equipment service experience required (5+ years is preferred)
  • Experience with centrifugal and vertical turbine pumps strongly preferred
  • Ability to independently manage full tear-down and rebuild projects from inspection through final test.Familiarity with laser alignments - comfortable performing in the field
  • Capable of reading and understanding parts diagrams and mechanical drawings
  • Valid driver's license
  • Please note: Candidates who demonstrate strong ownership, organization, and leadership ability may have the opportunity to grow into expanded responsibilities over time.

Relevant Experience Backgrounds
We are particularly interested in candidates with experience in:
  • Industrial pump repair and rebuild
  • Centrifugal pump repair (ANSI/API)
  • Vertical turbine pump service
  • Self-priming pump rebuild
  • AODD pump repair
  • Rotating equipment rebuild
  • Mechanical seal replacement
  • Bearing and shaft repair
  • Laser alignment
  • Industrial millwright or rotating equipment service backgrounds

*Candidates coming from pump distributors, industrial service centers, rotating equipment shops, or millwright environments with hands-on pump rebuild experience are encouraged to apply.
Key Skills: Industrial pump repair, pump rebuild, rotating equipment, centrifugal pumps, vertical turbine pumps, AODD pumps, mechanical seals, bearings, shafts, laser alignment, OEM-authorized service.
The duties, responsibilities, and activities described above are not exhaustive and may be subject to change. Additionally, please note that the job title for this posting is designed to be descriptive and may not reflect the official title used internally for job classification purposes.
