Position Title: Chief Hospitalist Advanced Practice Provider Practitioner

Boston University School of Medicine (BUSM), Department of Hospital Medicine is seeking an APP Chief of Advanced Practice Provider Practitioner to join our faculty.

The HMU Chief APP at Boston Medical Center will develop the strategy and infrastructure for Advanced Practice Provider (APP) staff within the Hospitalist Medicine Unit. The Chief APP will have primary responsibility for staff supervision, recruitment, training, and performance evaluations, and manage operational tasks such as scheduling and workflow improvements. Additionally, the Chief APP will balance clinical responsibilities with administrative duties, providing mentorship, education, and leadership within the department. This supervisory position reports to the HMU Medical Director and GIM Section Chief, while working collaboratively with relevant administrative and clinical leadership to advance the agenda and goals of Boston Medical Center. They will also ensure compliance with all regulatory requirements for the APP staff. The Chief APP will have both the clinical responsibilities of the clinical position as well as management/administrative duties.

Managerial duties:

  • Serves as clinical resource for staff through consultation, formal and informal education, mentorship, review of literature and participation in seminars and conferences.
  • Participate in the planning of the APP staff educational activities in the Department.
  • Supervises assigned staff, including recruiting, hiring, and on-boarding. Ensures staff meets mandatory training and licensing requirements.
  • Responsible for all annual performance reviews by applicable organization; BMC performance review; BMC OPPEs, BUSM Faculty Annual Review; all other mandatory compliance training
  • Prepares performance evaluations in conjunction with physician and/or department leadership. Addresses behavioral issues and adverse interpersonal interactions involving the APP staff.
  • Responsible for effective and efficient operations for area of oversight
  • Manages the process for schedules, PTO tracking, and coordinates with HR around related processes, and oversees the monthly APP and/or program staff (if applicable) clinic schedule for department coverage.
  • Works closely with department/section leadership on initiatives and projects to improve workflows and patient care and to manage department expectations.
  • Liaises with Hospital at Home Medical Director regarding operations and staffing for Hospital at Home program
  • Other duties as needed, which may include, but not limited to, education and research efforts, as defined by the department

Location: Boston Campus

Job Requirements:

  • Graduate of an accredited APP program with a minimum of a Bachelor's degree
  • Minimum of 5+ years' experience practicing independently
  • Massachusetts license (or if license is out of state, must obtain within first 90 days of employment)
  • Must have a federal DEA number

Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities:

  • Mastery of clinical skills required
  • Sophisticated interpersonal skills necessary to work collaboratively with others, build trust, be approachable and maintain a positive and respectful attitude toward others and their ideas, foster a professional, equitable, and inclusive environment for all
  • Excellent communication skills (oral and written). Bilingual or multi-lingual skills (beyond that of English) appropriate to the patient population served is a plus.
  • Ability to adapt to changes in the work environment, manage competing demands and to deal with frequent change, delays or unexpected events.
  • Leadership ability to guide, direct, and mentor staff.
  • Proficiency with standard Microsoft programs and hospital registration systems.
  • Must be able to maintain strict confidentiality of all personal/health sensitive information.

Compensation: Boston University Chobanian & Avedisian School of Medicine (BUCASM) offers a competitive salary commensurate with academic training and practice experience. Compensation Range:

$140,500.00- $204,000.00

This range offers an estimate based on the minimum job qualifications. However, our approach to determining base pay is comprehensive, and a broad range of factors is considered when making an offer. This includes education, experience, skills, and certifications/licensures as they directly relate to position requirements; as well as business/organizational needs, internal equity, and market-competitiveness.
