Job description

Amazon Robotics is seeking a Sr. Manufacturing Engineer with advanced 3D modeling and 2D drafting expertise to join our Advanced Manufacturing Engineering (AME) team. You will leverage deep proficiency in CAD modeling and production drawing creation to oversee the transition of complex self governed robotic systems from design to production, applying Design for Excellence (DfX) principles across a global supply chain.
The Amazon Robotics (AR) Operations organization manufactures high-quality robotics and gets the right materials to the right place at the right time to enable our automated solutions

It's a fast-paced operation that works cross-functionally with teams across Amazon globally, and is powered by data and performance indicators.
Are you inspired by invention. Is problem solving through teamwork in your DNA. Do you like the idea of seeing how your work impacts the bigger picture

Answer yes to any of these and you'll fit right in here at Amazon Robotics. We are a smart team of doers that work passionately to apply manufacturing technology in robotics and software to solve real-world problems that will transform our customers' experiences. We invent new improvements every day.

We will give you the tools and support you need to invent with us in ways that are rewarding, fulfilling and fun.
This role will report to the Head of Advanced Manufacturing Engineering. You will be responsible for applying advanced modeling and drafting skills alongside DfX principles to influence product designs and transition a wide range of self governed robotic solutions from design to production. You will create and interpret complex 3D models and 2D production drawings, work cross-functionally to develop suppliers, manage product lifecycle changes, oversee manufacturing readiness assessments, and drive technical root cause for supplier defects

The successful candidate will combine expert-level CAD proficiency with broad manufacturing engineering knowledge, and be willing to "roll up sleeves and do what needs to get done" to consistently deliver results.
Key job responsibilities
- Create, review, and redline complex 3D parametric models and 2D production drawings to ensure manufacturability, proper tolerancing, and compliance with GD&T standards.
- Provide Design for Excellence (DfX) guidance and feedback on electromechanical designs at concept and detailed design phases, leveraging modeling expertise to validate design intent.
- Develop detailed manufacturing-intent drawings and model-based definitions (MBD) to communicate critical-to-quality features to suppliers.
- Guide best practices on manufacturing tolerances using GD&T; perform tolerance stack-up analyses using 3D models to identify interference and assembly risks

- Launch tooling with accelerated schedules. Assess project risk and drive mitigation plans using model-based simulations.
- Review external production processes, identify risk, and mitigate - using 2D drafting deliverables to clearly define supplier requirements.

- Qualify production processes based on dimensional data, control plans, and process capability (Cpk) requirements.
- Drive internal and external PFMEA and DFMEA reviews, referencing model geometry and drawing specifications.
- Solve technical problems across a broad set of manufacturing commodities (mechanical and electrical).
- Guide manufacturing readiness assessments (MRL) for NPI programs through production ramp

- Evaluate and approve Engineering Change Orders (ECOs) across mechanical and electrical commodities, assessing manufacturing, supply chain, and cost impacts - authoring or revising drawings and models as needed.
- Evaluate production, supplier, and field failures for root cause analysis and resolution using 8D, 5-Why, and Fishbone methodologies.
- Mentor team members and design engineers on producibility best practices, drafting standards, and modeling techniques.

- Propose design changes that will enhance product sustainability and scalability, producing updated models and drawings to support implementation.
- Shepherd Statistical Process Control (SPC) implementation at suppliers; conduct Gauge R&R and process capability studies.
- Up to 30% travel required.
A day in the life
As a Sr. Manufacturing Engineer on the Advanced Manufacturing Engineering team, you'll start your day in CAD - reviewing 3D models for manufacturability concerns and redlining 2D drawings to refine GD&T callouts before releasing to suppliers

Mid-morning, you might join a design review with hardware engineers, using your modeling expertise to flag tolerance stack-up risks, recommend geometry changes, or drive cost-out through design simplification. After lunch, you could be generating production-intent drawings for a new tooling package, guiding a PFMEA session with a key supplier, or analyzing SPC data to qualify a new production tool. You'll collaborate daily with cross-functional stakeholders across Hardware Engineering, Supply Chain, Quality, and Program Management, and you'll see the direct impact of your modeling and drafting skills as designs move from prototype to high-volume global production.
Amazon offers a full range of benefits that support you and eligible family members, including domestic partners

Benefits can vary by location, the number of regularly scheduled hours you work, length of employment, and job status such as seasonal or temporary employment. The benefits that generally apply to regular, full-time employees include:

3. Paid Time Off (PTO)
4. 401(k) Plan
If you are not sure that every qualification on the list above describes you exactly, we'd still love to hear from you.

At Amazon, we value people with unique backgrounds, experiences, and skillsets. If you're passionate about this role and want to make an impact on a global scale, please apply.
About the team
AME is the scalability engine within AR Operations.

We bridge innovation and execution by integrating DfX principles early in the engineering process.
