Job Description:

Supports practice changes due to performance improvement activities and upholds departmental standards and initiatives. Other duties as assigned. Performs decontamination functions accurately, reprocesses scopes and equipment, operates automated endoscope reprocessors, and maintains records related to decontamination/disinfection/sterilization processes. Prepares patients for procedures as directed by the registered nurse, participates in the care of all age groups, communicates pertinent patient information to the registered nurse, and assists in medication delivery via endoscope under physician supervision. Promotes a safe environment, responds appropriately in emergency situations, controls hazards, and reports environmental concerns to management. Follows standards of practice according to guidelines. Assists physicians in performing complex endoscopic procedures, including cholangioscopy, endomucosal resection, sphincter of Oddi manometry, pancreatic endotherapy, ultrasound-guided interventions, peroral endoscopic myotomy, double balloon enteroscopies, endosuturing, cystgastroscopy, endoscopic vac therapy, endoscopic suturing, and Endoflip. Assists with complex pulmonary procedures, including navigation bronchoscopies and endobronchial ultrasound procedures. Selects and operates appropriate equipment and accessories for all endoscopy cases, troubleshoots equipment issues, and anticipates physician needs during procedures. Demonstrates knowledge of procedure-specific lasers, selects appropriate laser fibers and supplies, adheres to safety standards, and collaborates with the safety leadership for annual safety in-services. Participates in national teaching conferences, live training courses, and hosts observers in clinical settings to facilitate learning of procedure techniques and processes. Acts as preceptor or trainer for other technicians learning endoscopic procedures. Participates in research projects, collaborates with research teams, ensures availability of supplies and equipment, and follows protocols appropriately.

  • 1+ years experience as an endoscopy technician, or other comparable health care role [Required]
