Johnston County Emergency Services is seeking Full-Time EMT / Basics for 12-hour DAYTIME shifts. Johnston County's EMS division is responsible for overseeing provisions of Emergency Medical Services throughout the county, providing oversight to medical dispatch, fire department medical responders, and contracted EMS Agencies. An EMT in this class must be certified as an Emergency Medical Technician. Work is performed under local medical director approved protocols and under the supervision of the EMS Captain and is evaluated through peer review, conferences, observation, discussion of procedures at emergency scenes, and public feedback. Work subjects the employee to high stress situations, inside and outside environmental conditions, extreme temperatures, noise, vibration, hazards associated with emergency management work and fumes, chemicals, dusts, odors, gases, and oils. Work also subject to the OSHA standards on blood borne pathogens. Please document all work history relevant to the position for which you are applying. • Responsible for responding to the scene of emergency and non-emergency calls.
• Applying necessary medical treatment to sick or injured persons
• Transporting persons to appropriate medical facilities
• Administering basic level of life support techniques and procedures based on patient assessment
• Gathers basic medical and insurance information

• Ability to work a rotating shift, travel to and from assigned stations and to meet the needs of the EMS operations.
• Serves as operator of emergency medical unit responding to calls for assistance and transports patients to medical facilities as necessary.
• Successfully completes necessary reports and records for emergency calls.
• Inspects and tests ambulances and their emergency equipment, maintaining proper inventory of equipment and supplies; cleans and sanitizes ambulance and equipment daily; ensures that they are in proper and good working order; makes routine adjustments, but reports other than minor defects for specialized attention.

Physical Requirements

• Must be able to physically perform the basic life operational functions of climbing, balancing, stooping, kneeling, crouching, reaching, standing, walking, lifting, fingering, grasping, talking, and hearing.
• Must be able to perform heavy work exerting up to 100 pounds of force occasionally, and/or up to 50 pounds of force frequently, and/or up to 20 pounds of force constantly to lift, to move objects.
• Must possess the visual acuity to prepare and analyze data, for extensive reading and work with figures; to operate a computer, to use measuring devices, to operate a motor vehicle; and to determine accuracy and neatness of work.

• High school graduation and successful completion of the North Carolina State Emergency Medical Services training program.
