    Position Summary:

    Shimadzu Scientific Instruments is seeking a Life Science Service Specialist to join our team! In this role, you will provide field-based service support for advanced Biotech and Life Science instrumentation. This position requires extensive travel to customer sites, regional offices, and other service locations, including frequent overnight travel and travel by air or vehicle to support customer needs across the territory.

    The Life Science Service Specialist installs, repairs, maintains, troubleshoots, and supports assigned products, including systems such as AXIMA MALDI, MALDI 8020, PPSQ, PERFINITY LC, LABNIRS, LIGHTNIRS, IM-LAYER, CLAM, and related platforms. This role is a strong fit for a hands-on instrumentation service professional who is comfortable with a heavy travel schedule, enjoys working directly with customers in the field, and can independently manage service priorities across a large geographic region.

    JOB FUNCTIONS INCLUDE, BUT ARE NOT LIMITED TO:

    Field Service, Travel & Repair:

    • Provide hands-on repair, maintenance, installation, and troubleshooting support for assigned Biotech and Life Science products sold by Shimadzu Scientific Instruments or its representatives.
    • Travel extensively to support customer service needs, including frequent overnight travel.
    • Support customers at multiple work sites during the course of a business day or work week, depending on territory needs and service demand.
    • Perform instrument installations and repairs efficiently, professionally, and in accordance with company service standards.

    Customer Support & Training:

    • Provide technical training to customers, service personnel, technical support teams, and less experienced field personnel.
    • Deliver telephone-based technical support to customers and field personnel, including guidance on repairs, maintenance, installations, documentation, and repair parts needs.
    • Support Shimadzu customers in a professional, responsive manner while helping maintain a high-quality service experience across the territory.

    Documentation & Continuous Improvement:

    • Accurately document and report repairs, service activities, product failures, parts usage, and related service information in a timely manner.
    • Provide design change or product improvement recommendations when applicable based on field service experience and product performance.
    • Help develop preventive maintenance procedures for assigned products as required.

      EDUCATION AND QUALIFICATIONS:

      • An associate’s degree in Electrical Engineering or Technology is required.
      • A bachelor’s degree in a Life Science discipline is highly preferred.
      • At least three years of field or in-house instrumentation repair experience, or equivalent experience with similar products, is required.
      • Strong hands-on troubleshooting, repair, installation, and maintenance experience with scientific instrumentation is required.
      • Working knowledge of electronics, biotechnology products, computer systems, customer relations, report preparation, and organizational practices is required.
      • Experience with Shimadzu products, life science instrumentation, MALDI systems, or related analytical instrumentation is a plus.

      • Strong customer service, communication, training, documentation, and problem-solving skills are required.

      • Ability and willingness to travel extensively across a multi-state territory is required.

      Compensation & Benefits:

      This full-time, non-exempt position comes with a comprehensive benefits package. In your first year, you will receive 10 paid vacation days, 8 paid personal days, 8 paid scheduled holidays and 3 paid floating holidays (Residents of California and Puerto Rico will receive state-mandated sick leave instead of personal days). After one year of employment, you will also be eligible for a generous short-term disability program with the company covering 100% of monthly premiums.

      The starting salary range for this role is $109,000 to $111,000 annually, paid semi-monthly. As a non-exempt position, you will be eligible for overtime and double time pay, as outlined in our employee handbook. Additional variable compensation may include a discretionary year-end bonus based on overall company performance.

      This position includes a company car with a fuel card (with a $55 per pay deduction for personal use), company laptop, and a company-paid cell phone, which remains company property but can be used for personal purposes.
