Summary
The ANR Program Assistant works with the Paulding County Extension ANR Agent in planning, developing, and conducting one of several county-sponsored programs and performs duties necessary to assist the County Extension Agent in the day-to-day conduct of programs. Work includes responsible, supervisory, paraprofessional work and involves the supervision of tasks necessary in planning, developing, and directing these educational programs. This employee must exhibit qualities of independent judgment. Work is performed under general supervision. This person works cooperatively with all Extension faculty and staff where applicable and is administratively responsible to the appropriate County Extension Agent, the County Extension Coordinator and the District Extension Director.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
  1. Plan, organize, schedule, and conduct a variety of program activities and events in relation to Agriculture including school and community gardens, fruits, vegetables, and horticulture, etc.
  2. Answering phone calls, greeting and assisting guests, sample identification and microscope work, leading adult education meetings during the day, night, and weekends.
  3. Assists the County Extension Agent by researching and providing information requested by clients.
  4. Serves in a training role for volunteer leaders by providing them with program ideas and materials.
  5. Attends local, district, and state program activities and events in the place of the County Extension Agent.
  6. Physical Demands: Light to medium lifting and program setup up to 40lbs.
  7. Work Hours Normal hours 8am-5pm, Monday - Friday. Occasional nights and weekends, including some overnight weekend assignments.
  8. Performs related work as required.
  9. Assists in planning and implementing public relations and communications. Create content for website, social media, newspapers and newsletters, flyers and other promotional materials. Maintains and update email distribution lists and attends public events and meetings.
  10. Provides clerical duties, prepares and submits reports and forms on Extension activities. Updates weekly/monthly calendar and performs other duties as assigned.

Education, Training and Experience
Graduation from a two-year college or vocational/technical school with course emphasis in horticulture/agriculture/forestry or other relevant subject matter and experience in program planning; OR equivalent combination of training and experience.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
  1. Ability to relate effectively to adults and youth.
  2. Extensive knowledge and experience in the program area of responsibility.
  3. Knowledge of the interests and behavior of the program participants.
  4. Skill in planning a variety of programs for the target audience.

  2. Ability to successfully complete 4-H Risk Management Training, County and UGA Background Screening and pass a drug test.
  3. Proficiency in current word processing and data management software programs (e.g. Microsoft Word, PowerPoint, Excel, Outlook, OneDrive).
  4. Familiarity with internet research, marketing and volunteer portals and social media etiquette.
  5. Must have valid driver's license and reliable personal transportation.
  6. Willingness to transport adults and youth to events by driving program van or minibus.
