Starting Salary Range:  AJCR $1,262-$1,404 per credit hour and in accordance with the adjunct table and determined based on relevant years of work experience provided on application and resume.

Position Summary: The Foreign Language department is seeking a French adjunct professor to teach Elementary level French language. JCCC is located in Overland Park, KS, the second largest city in the state of Kansas and part of the greater Kansas City Metro. The Kansas City Metro is known for its museums, restaurants, and music and art scenes. JCCC is similarly dedicated to creating and maintaining a rich cultural community, with an award-winning contemporary art museum and center for the performing arts located on campus.
JCCC is looking for a part-time adjunct faculty position in the Foreign Language Department to serve as a substitute or teach Elementary and Intermediate French in the day or evening in the summer, spring or fall semesters in person and live online (Zoom). The Foreign Language Department is part of the Communications Division.


The successful applicant for this job may teach the equivalent of 5-10 credit hours or serve as a substitute professor. This person will perform other duties expected of adjunct faculty, to include collaborating and working successfully with other full-time and adjunct faculty in the Foreign Language department and other duties as assigned.
Additional responsibilities:
Provide extra and co-curricular opportunities for French language students.
Participate in the planning and administration of all departmental initiatives.
Participate in on-campus events promoting languages.
Complete ACTFL and/or other departmental training.
Incomplete applications will not be considered.
Candidates will be interviewed and will be asked to demonstrate a 30-minute class in person or on Zoom.

Required Qualifications:

  • M.A. degree in French or an M.A. in a related discipline with at least 18 hours of graduate work in French as required by JCCC HLC criteria.
  • Demonstrated ability to teach Elementary and Intermediate French courses.
  • Demonstrated excellent communication and collaboration skills.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of using technology in the classroom.
  • Demonstrated 2 years teaching experience at the post-secondary level and/or 4 years of high school teaching experience.
  • Demonstrated ability to teach online using zoom or a platform like Zoom.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Demonstrated understanding of the climate of post-secondary institutions.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of ACTFL World-Readiness Standards for Learning Languages.
  • Documentation from ACTFL (OPI) of advanced mid or higher in French.
  • Ability to teach Chinese, German, Japanese or Spanish with HLC credentials.
  • PhD in French.
  • Demonstrated ability to teach Elementary and Intermediate French language courses.
  • Demonstrated 4 years teaching experience at the post-secondary level.
