Job description

We are looking for dependable, hard-working individuals to join our underground telecommunications construction team.
This is a hands-on field position supporting crews that install underground conduit, fiber optic facilities, and other telecommunications infrastructure throughout Southeast Michigan.

Construction experience is helpful, but it is not required. We are willing to train people who show up on time, work hard, work safely, and want to learn the underground construction trade.
For the right person, this position can be the starting point for advancement into equipment operation, underground construction, and other skilled positions.
As an Utility Laborer, you'll work directly alongside experienced crew members and equipment operators. Responsibilities include:

  • Assist underground construction crews with conduit and telecommunications infrastructure installation

  • Support excavation, trenching, boring, and restoration activities

  • Assist equipment operators and other crew members during underground construction

  • Handle conduit, pipe, materials, tools, and construction equipment

  • Perform digging, shoveling, backfilling, and other physical job-site work

  • Load and unload materials, tools, and equipment

  • Operate hand and power tools safely

  • Help maintain clean, organized, and safe work areas

  • Assist with job-site setup and cleanup

  • Follow all safety requirements at all times

  • Work outdoors in changing weather and job-site conditions

  • Perform additional duties needed to keep the crew productive and projects moving

What We're Looking For
We're looking for people who are reliable, willing to work, and interested in learning the trade.
Required:

  • Valid driver's license

  • Reliable transportation to report to work

  • Ability to perform physically demanding outdoor construction work

  • Ability to lift, carry, push, and move construction materials and equipment

  • Ability to follow instructions and work effectively as part of a crew

  • Dependable attendance and punctuality

  • Willingness to learn and take direction

  • Commitment to working safely

Preferred, but not required:

  • Previous construction, utility, landscaping, excavation, or similar outdoor work experience

  • Experience using hand and power tools

  • Underground utility or telecommunications construction experience

What Success Looks Like
You don't need years of experience to be successful in this position.
We value employees who:

  • Show up – Your crew needs to be able to depend on you.

  • Work hard – Underground construction is physical work, and everyone contributes.

  • Work safely – Taking shortcuts isn't worth getting yourself or someone else hurt.

  • Learn – Pay attention, ask questions, and develop new skills.

  • Help the crew – Successful crews work together and keep each other productive.

  • Want to advance – We want employees who are interested in developing their skills and taking on more responsibility.
