Job description

We made history and now we work to transform the future - for our customers, our communities and our families. You'll see your work on the road every day, helping people move freely and pursue their dreams. At Ford, you can build more than vehicles. Come build what matters.
Racing is where our story began.
In 1901, Henry Ford climbed into a car he built himself-"Sweepstakes"-and beat America's most famous driver. He wasn't a racer, but he had to win. He did. Ford Motor Company was born from that victory.
That fighting spirit lives on in Ford Racing today. We're the engineers, strategists, and competitors who bring Ford's track-tested edge into every vehicle we build. Every track, every stage, every proving ground-that's where we prove ourselves.
The result: one of the world's most iconic brands, legendary nameplates, and a team unmatched in the industry.
Our mantra: Race to win, engineer to lead.
If you're a competitor, innovator, or performance obsessive, Ford Racing is where you belong. Help us write the next chapter.
In this position...
  • Identifying areas within the existing business to utilize Additive Manufacturing to improve timing for development cycles or investment avoidance
  • Identifying areas within our future business to utilize Additive Manufacturing to optimize designs for mass or other attributes
  • Using specific targeted applications, influence which technologies Ford should invest in or partner on.

Responsibilities
What you'll do...
  • You Will Lead The Overall Proliferation Of Additive Manufacturing within Ford Racing on both Motorsports and Road Car applications in the following ways:
    • Strategic Approach To The Business
      • By identifying specific uses for Additive technologies in the organization, grow internal capability by influencing which new Additive Technologies to pursue as a company including purchase of new capital equipment
      • Design the principles to determine which projects and technologies should be pursued by Ford Racing through internal and external capabilities
      • Identify strategic partnerships for equipment and outsourced capability.
      • Develop and deliver on key performance indicators (KPIs) for Ford Racing Additive Manufacturing efforts to appropriately measure growth
    • Drive and Facilitate Ford Racing Internally-Led Projects
      • Develop and lead a small team that will become the center-of-excellence for Additive Manufacturing technologies to guide D&R engineers through the design for manufacturing process and product launch.
      • Near term, work with Design and Release (D&R) engineers and development engineers to identify areas where Additive Manufacturing can help our in-flight programs by speeding up evaluation of design iterations or avoidance of capital spend for production tools.
      • Near term, work with D&R engineers and Architecture team to target specific systems, sub-systems, or components for Additive technologies in the up-front stage of future programs.
      • Longer term, take over coordination efforts of all existing Additive Manufacturing efforts for F1 Powertrain applications.
    • Represent Ford Racing In Externally (Non Ford Racing) Led Projects
      • Be single-point-of-contact for external partners to determine the appropriate involvement for Ford Racing on various corporate initiatives.
      • Coordinate efforts with appropriate program and functional teams as required.
      • Communicate program requirements (functional, timing, financials) to the external partners to ensure a path to success.
    • Travel - Limited in beginning to site visits for benchmarking. Opportunities for more optional travel may exist if desired (supplier or partner visits, etc). All Ford facilities are currently in Southeast Michigan.

Qualifications
You'll have...
  • Bachelors in Engineering
  • Deep Practical Additive Manufacturing experience including:
    • Design for Additive Manufacturing
    • Build set-up including orientation, support development, and slicing decisions
    • Build execution including machine set-up and part production,
    • Quality confirmation through various post-build scans or measurements

  • Self starter, highly motivated for success
  • Passion for winning that will not accept excuses for failure
  • Entrepreneurial mindset, able to make decisions based on overall value analysis

Even better, you may have...
  • Masters of Engineering and/or Masters of Engineering Management and/or Masters of Manufacturing Engineering
  • Previous or current experience leading salary technical personnel
  • Extensive knowledge of other (non-Additive) manufacturing technologies for reference when determining whether Additive Manufacturing is appropriate for a particular application
  • Enthusiast background, with passion for enthusiast products or motorsports.
