The Caring Place (@Miami Rescue Mission & Broward Outreach Centers) is a leading provider of services to the homeless and needy of South Florida. We are looking for like-minded, dynamic individuals to come and join our team. The Caring Place provides emergency shelter, residential programs, job training, education & computer literacy classes, healthcare, transitional housing, permanent housing, employment opportunities for homeless men, women, and children as well as programs for โ€œat-riskโ€ youth.

We are currently seeking a PT Chaplain at the Broward Outreach Centers in Hollywood, FL,


JOB SUMMARY

The Chaplain reports to the Programs Manager, and is responsible for providing basic curriculum-based teachings on Salvation to residents and staff who voluntarily express an interest in biblical teachings. The Chaplain will disciple residents, and instructs them on how to implement biblical principles into their restoration from addictions. Duties will also include facilitating support groups on a weekly or monthly basis as needed. Incumbent will also be available to any resident or staff expressing a need for prayer, or having a desire to speak with a spiritual counselor during a crisis. The Chaplain will act as the liaison between local churches and the organization, to increase awareness, participation, and program support.

CORE DUTIES/RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Ensures that all clients, staff, and volunteers are treated with respect and dignity
  • Communicates the policy that all religious classes and meetings are voluntary and are not required
  • Exercises sound and ethical practices relating to clients, employees, and the public
  • Assists with the development of curriculum to be incorporated into the voluntary classes/meetings.
  • Responsible for creating, updating, and posting approved weekly calendars of Bible studies, salvation classes, prayer times, etc. and to keep Programs Manager informed
  • Provides Programs Manager with department reports and any other data requested or needed accurately and on time
  • Interacts with churches and the faith community to increase participation, funding, and volunteers
  • Abstains from doctrinal disputes, and uses sensitivity in dealing with a diverse population
  • Attends company sponsored events to support the residents we serve
  • Will lead and/or participate in devotions, prayers, or other ministry activities ex. outreach events
  • Must be in agreement with and sign The Caring Place Statement of Faith
  • Performs other related duties as assigned

EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS:

  • Requires a high school diploma or GED with evidence of sound biblical training and basic computer skills; Bachelorโ€™s degree in Biblical Studies/Divinity is preferred
  • Must have at least two (2) years of experience in ministry and must be an active member of a local church
  • Must have at least two (2) years of experience in homeless or similar ministry with demonstrated Christian leadership and Christian teaching is required
  • Requires the ability to disciple individuals by teaching solid biblical truths, emphasizing salvation through the acceptance of Jesus Christ
  • Must be knowledgeable of addiction, recovery principles, and relapse prevention necessary due to the special population being served
  • Must exhibit a professional demeanor to effectively interface with all levels of residents, employees, volunteers and outside professional contacts
  • Must be able to read, write and effectively communicate in English; conversational Spanish highly desirable
  • Some local travel required for purposes of resident interventions, assigned meetings, and contacting local agencies

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:

  • Must be able to sit for extended periods, and have the ability to lift and/or pull objects weighing up to 25 pounds
  • Must also be able to see, hear and speak, in order to interact with staff and the general public
  • Must also be able to move around as needed to perform essential job duties
