Job description

The Substance Abuse Group Facilitator is responsible for leading and coordinating group counseling sessions for individuals recovering from substance use disorders. This role supports clients through evidence-based interventions, psychoeducation, relapse prevention strategies, and recovery-focused skill development in a safe, supportive, and confidential environment.
 Key Responsibilities
  • Facilitate substance abuse and recovery-focused group sessions for clients in out-patient setting
  • Encourage active participation and foster a respectful, nonjudgmental group environment
  • Monitor client progress and document attendance, participation, treatment goals, and behavioral observations accurately and timely
  • Identify clients in crisis and respond appropriately according to organizational protocols
  • Provide education on substance use disorders, recovery resources, and community support systems
  • Maintain compliance with HIPAA, confidentiality standards, and agency policies
  • Participate in staff meetings, trainings, supervision, and program development activities
  • Support clients in developing recovery goals and accountability strategies
Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s degree in Psychology, Social Work, Counseling, Human Services, or related field required; Master’s degree preferred
  • Certification or licensure or In training certificate related to substance abuse counseling preferred (such as CADC, CAC, CACI, CACII, CCIT, or CADC-T)
  • Minimum of 1–2 years of experience working with individuals with substance use disorders or behavioral health populations
  • Knowledge of addiction recovery models, motivational interviewing, trauma-informed care, and group facilitation techniques
  • Strong communication, interpersonal, conflict resolution, and documentation skills
  • Ability to manage group dynamics professionally and effectively
Preferred Skills
  • Experience facilitating psychoeducational or therapeutic groups
  • Familiarity with co-occurring mental health disorders
  • Ability to work with diverse populations and cultural backgrounds
  • Strong organizational and time-management skills
  • Proficiency with electronic health records (EHR) systems
