Position: Staff Engineer, Advanced Engineering

Reports to: Department Head

Position Overview and Objectives:

Seeking a talented and self-motivated automotive Staff Systems Engineer located in Farmington Hills, MI. The ideal candidate will have experience in advanced system engineering principles as applied to complex electronic controllers, with a specialization in ADAS. The ideal candidate must be able to create innovative solutions and be willing to push technological boundaries. The candidate will be working in a culture that fosters creativity and problem solving. This position will play a key role in a development team that creates forward thinking advanced ADAS systems for the future.

Responsibilities:

  • Investigate emerging elemental technologies to be included in centralized controller as a system perspective including hardware and software.
  • Consider E/E architecture changes and E/E architecture requirements and correlate to elemental technologies.
  • Identify future system requirements for Advanced engineering POC based on new emerging technologies and OEM potential future directions.
  • Exhibit clear understanding of physical constraints and development constraints for technology incubation.
  • Exhibit clear understanding of cost impacts, functional safety ISO26262 requirements, SOTIF requirements, SOAFEE guidelines to define constraints for ECU design.
  • Exhibit abilities to apply system engineering methods to translate requirements and constraints in mathematical models and realize clear direction for design and architecture optimization.
  • Building on system engineering knowledge creates core values for centralized controller through innovative ideas and engineering principles.
  • Initiate POC development based on core value generated for centralized controller
  • Know-how of Automotive ECU hardware, sensors, peripheral interconnects and System-on-Chip.
  • Highly motivated and demonstrate initiatives for leading system engineering efforts towards development.
  • Know-how of DFEMA, block diagrams, and worst-case analysis for system design.
  • Interface with potential customers to clarify requirements and gain detailed knowledge as needed.
  • Create the product development plan with emphasis on managing timing, cost, complexity, and risk.
  • Develop wiring diagrams to illustrate external system interfaces as needed.
  • Lead effort and deliver hardware/software interface specifications.
  • Participate in all hardware and software design reviews ensuring smooth implementation of requirements.
  • Develop concepts and specifications for verification testing.
  • Lead effort in root cause analysis and issue resolution as needed
  • Publish technical papers, patents, and attend/present at conferences and seminars.

  • Perform any other assignments from time-to-time as management so directs.
  • Provide guide and mentorship to other team members.
  • Assure compliance with the designated ISO / TS 16949 responsibilities, Health & Safety (H&S) rules and practices as required.

Qualifications:

  • Minimum 10 years of applicable experience.

  • Ability to work on challenging assignments with aggressive schedules.
  • Experience in hardware and software system integration, such as integration of new sensors, actuators.

  • Experience in requirements gathering and writing specifications as they relate to test functionality.

Special Knowledge / Skills:

  • English: Fluent in written and verbal communication.
  • Must have hardware knowledge and experience with analog, digital, and power electronic circuits.
  • Must be able to read and make electrical schematics, and engineering drawings.
  • Complex problem-solving skills and understanding of AI algorithms (DNN, CNN) technology are highly desired.
  • Understanding of Advanced AI Architectures including VLM, LLM, VLA is preferred.
  • Know-how of cross domain systems, driver/ occupant monitoring systems, ADAS, IVI and body control systems is preferred.
  • Know-how of Automotive ECU validation and verification processes is preferred.
  • Motivated to identify problems, create solution through understanding critical information from document review, paper review and patent review is preferred.
  • Candidates should exhibit skills in technical writing, and time and project management.

Additionally, the ability to work independently with minimal direction is required as are strong verbal and written communication skills.

Education: M.SC. Ph.D. in system engineering, mechatronics, electronics and electrical engineering, computer engineering or in a related engineering field. Preference will be given to Ph.D. candidates.

Experience: 10+ years of automotive systems experience with M.SC or 5+ years of automotive systems experience with Ph.D. .

Exact job level is determined by various factors such as organization size, responsibility, career stage, and capabilities.

Working Conditions:

Physical Demands: Sitting and standing for extended periods of time in an office and industrial lab environment. Capable of lifting equipment and apparatus repetitively weighing between 25lbs to 30lbs.

Travel: Domestic and international may be required as needed. The candidate will occasionally need to travel to multiple global locations to support project development. Work Environment: At least 3 days per week on site in Farmington Hills, MI
