About this opportunity:

The Employee Relations office welcomes applicants for the Assistant Director of Equal Opportunity and Americans with Disabilities Act ("ADA") Coordinator at Ball State University. The successful candidate will ensure compliance with federal civil rights laws, lead investigations, and oversee a campus-wide ADA program that promotes equitable access for employees and applicants, while influencing policy, advising senior leadership, and delivering training across the university community on nondiscrimination and employee relations matters.
The ideal candidate brings strong expertise in equal opportunity compliance, employment law, and ADA program administration, along with the ability to conduct investigations with sound judgment and neutrality, communicate effectively, and manage confidential matters while building trust across a wide range of stakeholders.
This position requires a full-time on-campus presence.
Candidates must have current authorization to work in the U.S. without employer sponsorship.

What you'll do and what you'll bring:

Position Function: Provide leadership in the area of ensuring compliance with federal and state regulations and university policies concerning equal opportunity, nondiscrimination, Title IX, and internal investigations on such matters. Develop and oversee the ADA program for employees. Facilitate training. Provide support with employee relations matters.

Duties and Responsibilities:

1. Administer the Ball State University Equal Opportunity Complaint Investigation Process; including communicating with complainants and respondents to review investigation procedures; interviewing parties to the investigation; interviewing witnesses; reviewing documents related to investigations; issuing findings and recommendations at the completion of each investigation; conducting post-investigation monitoring as necessary and as directed.

2. Manage the development, coordination, and implementation of a campus-wide plan for employees in compliance with federal and state laws and regulations relevant to the Americans with Disabilities Act Amendments Act of 2008 (ADAAA) and ensure that reasonable and timely accommodations are provided to applicants and employees.

3. Develop and conduct training to campus constituencies regarding nondiscrimination, ADA, and related employment law topics.

4. Serve as a liaison to university constituencies seeking advice or assistance on matters related to equal opportunity and nondiscrimination. Advise and counsel employees, supervisors, and administrators regarding policies, practices, laws, and regulations, and the complaint investigation process.

5. Serve as a campus Deputy Title IX Coordinator. Serve as a resource for the resolution of all reports of sexual harassment, sexual violence, stalking, and intimate partner violence involving students, staff, and faculty; knowledgeable and trained in university policies and procedures and relevant state and federal laws; available to advise any individual, including a complainant, a respondent, or a third party, about the courses of action available at the university, both informally and formally, and in the community; available to provide assistance to any university employee regarding how to respond appropriately to a report of sexual harassment, sexual violence, intimate partner violence, or stalking; responsible for monitoring full compliance with all procedural requirements, record-keeping, and time frames outlined in the policy.

6. Conduct other internal investigations as directed, including coordinating with other university personnel and administrative units; interviewing parties to the investigation; interviewing witnesses; reviewing documents related to investigations; issuing findings and recommendations at the completion of each investigation; conducting post-investigation monitoring as necessary and as directed.

7. Maintain current knowledge of equal opportunity and civil rights laws and regulations.

8. Perform other related duties as assigned.


Minimum Qualifications:

Bachelor's degree from an accredited institution of higher education.

At least five (5) years of professional work experience in equal opportunity, human resources, legal compliance, or related field, including a minimum of three (3) years of experience handling employment/legal investigations, and at least one (1) year experience in ADA program implementation. Evidence of a strong professional commitment to equal opportunity and nondiscrimination; technical skills to analyze data and prepare reports; experience in providing employment based training.

Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively; strong interpersonal and organizational skills; demonstrated ability to conduct legal research and writing; familiarity with civil rights laws, regulations and procedures, and/or employment and labor law. Strong leadership skills; ability to work in a fast-paced environment while being detail-oriented and exercising excellent judgment and problem-solving skills.

Preferred Qualifications:

Bachelor's or Master's degree from an accredited institution of higher education in human resources, management, labor relations, business, paralegal, political science, organizational psychology, or related field.

Familiarity with or experience working at a large research university. ADA program administration experience in higher education setting; legal/paralegal work experience; additional EO/AA, employee relations, and/or related human resources and training experience.
