The Clinical Toxicology Technologist/Trainee is involved in the preparation of urine and oral fluid patient samples for analysis by LC-MS/MS and responsible for review and interpretation of chromatographic data according to established procedures. Utilizes scientific principles as well as technical, procedural, and problem-solving aptitudes for day-to-day laboratory technical operations, quality control, instrument maintenance, quality assurance, corrective action, test result correlation, and clinical laboratory related continuing education. This role reports directly to the Clinical Toxicology Manager.
Responsibilities:
The Clinical Toxicology Technologist is responsible for all aspects of testing including:
• Performs routine testing, quality control, calibration, maintenance, and proficiency testing in accordance with current laboratory procedures.
• Ability to create stock solutions, QCs, and calibrators, monitor expiration dates, and pipette appropriately.
• Instrument and equipment troubleshooting and maintenance.
• Accurately performs and interprets data and results of highly complex clinical laboratory tests utilizing theoretical knowledge and independent judgment in addition to established protocol, techniques, and equipment manuals.
Specific Duties:
• Perform toxicology procedures following laboratory's approved policies and procedures.
• Maintain competency in assigned technical protocols according to established operational procedures.
• Maintain a clean, organized, and safe workspace in accordance with good laboratory practices.
• Operate and maintain laboratory instrumentation and equipment in accordance with established operating procedures including necessary equipment checks, performance testing, preventive maintenance, and quality controls.
• Assure instrumentation and equipment meet performance standards.
• Troubleshoot instrumentation and equipment related issues as they occur.
• Participate in the Proficiency Testing Program as assigned.
• Notify supervisor of discrepancies and records corrective action taken.
• Perform other duties as required.
Education:
Bachelor's in Medical Technology, Chemistry, Toxicology, or other closely related field
License:
NYS Clinical Laboratory Technologist (CLT) or Toxicology Restricted License eligible
Experience:
1+ years pertinent laboratory experience
Skills:
• Strong troubleshooting and problem-solving skills; highly motivated individual

• Ability to read information quickly, interpret, and retain it for later

Pay Range:
$24.00 - $28.00 per hour
