Join Our Team as an Associate Veterinarian

Lake Anna Veterinary Hospital | Mineral, Virginia

Lake Anna Veterinary Hospital is seeking a compassionate and motivated  Associate Veterinarian  to join our growing  six-doctor, AAHA-accredited small animal practice . We operate from a modern, 6,000-square-foot hospital near beautiful Lake Anna and are supported by an outstanding clinical team, including 8 Licensed Veterinary Technicians .

Our hospital provides comprehensive veterinary care, including wellness and preventive medicine, internal medicine, surgery, dentistry, rehabilitation, same-day urgent care, and advanced diagnostic imaging. We are committed to providing personalized, compassionate care while giving our doctors the equipment, staffing, mentorship, and flexibility needed to build rewarding careers.

Position Overview

Our associate veterinarians see a varied small animal caseload that includes:

  • Wellness and preventive-care appointments
  • Sick and medical visits
  • Same-day urgent appointments
  • Internal medicine cases
  • Dermatology, gastrointestinal, urinary, endocrine, and lameness cases
  • Dentistry and oral-health procedures
  • Soft-tissue surgery, depending on the veterinarian’s interests
  • Recheck examinations and ongoing case management
  • Client education and communication

This is  not an overnight emergency position . Although we accommodate same-day urgent visits, our doctors are not expected to manage after-hours emergencies.

Schedule

  • Three- to four-day workweek
  • No weekends

Daily Responsibilities

  • Examine, diagnose, and treat small animal patients
  • Develop appropriate diagnostic and treatment plans
  • Provide preventive and wellness care
  • Manage routine medical cases and same-day urgent visits
  • Perform or interpret diagnostic testing, including laboratory work and imaging
  • Perform dentistry and surgery according to experience and interest
  • Maintain complete and accurate electronic medical records
  • Communicate clearly and compassionately with clients
  • Collaborate with veterinarians, LVTs, assistants, and client service representatives
  • Use low-stress and Fear Free handling principles whenever possible

Qualifications

Required

  • Doctor of Veterinary Medicine degree, or equivalent
  • Current or eligible Virginia veterinary license
  • Strong clinical judgment and communication skills
  • Commitment to compassionate, high-quality patient care
  • Ability to work collaboratively with doctors and support staff
  • Interest in continued learning and professional development

Preferred, but Not Required

  • Experience in general practice, urgent care, surgery, dentistry, or internal medicine
  • Familiarity with ultrasound, endoscopy, rehabilitation, or advanced imaging
  • Fear Free certification or experience using low-stress handling techniques
  • Experience with IDEXX Cornerstone or similar practice-management software

New graduates are encouraged to apply. Structured mentorship can be provided in medicine, surgery, dentistry, diagnostic imaging, client communication, and case management.

Compensation

  • Salary range: $120,000–$175,000
  • Salary plus  ProSal compensation option
  • Compensation based on experience, schedule, and production structure
  • Sign-on and retention bonuses may be available
