Transportation & Logistics Manager

For more than a decade, Island Exterior Fabricators (IEF) has operated as a privately owned practice specializing in the delivery of bespoke, high-performing prefabricated facade systems. Our 50-acre manufacturing campus is headquartered in Calverton, New York, and supported by design and engineering offices in Manhattan, Boston, and Hartford.

Our organization is fully self-sustained, supported by state-of-the-art equipment and facilities that enable us to deliver a high-quality product. Our production capabilities, installation network, and bonding capacity allow Island to complete large-scale, complex projects in a timely, efficient manner.

Job Summary: As a Transportation and Logistics Manager at IEF, you will be accountable for planning, coordinating, and managing domestic and international transportation and logistics operations for materials, components, and finished facade products. This includes optimizing inbound and outbound freight, ensuring regulatory compliance, managing tariffs and duties, and supporting timely delivery to fabrication facilities and construction sites worldwide. The position plays a key role in cost control, risk management, and ensuring supply chain continuity across multiple international borders.

Accountabilities:

  • Develop and implement transportation and logistics strategies to ensure cost-effective, efficient, and compliant material movement.
  • Manage freight forwarders, customs brokers, and third-party logistics (3PL) providers.
  • Oversee import/export documentation, tariffs, duties, and customs compliance for all international shipments.
  • Collaborate with project managers, procurement, and production teams to plan shipment schedules and delivery requirements.
  • Monitor carrier performance and negotiate freight contracts to optimize cost and service levels.
  • Track and report logistics KPIs including on-time delivery, freight cost performance, and transit time reliability.
  • Ensure compliance with international trade laws, incoterms, and material regulations as applicable.
  • Coordinate logistics risk management strategies including cargo insurance and contingency routing.
  • Maintain accurate records of freight payments, customs documentation, and tariff classifications.

Authorities:

  • Approve and issue transportation and logistics instructions to internal and external stakeholders.
  • Select and evaluate carriers, freight forwarders, and customs brokers.
  • Authorize freight and duty payments within delegated financial limits.
  • Implement corrective actions related to logistics performance or compliance deficiencies.
  • Recommend process improvements and cost-saving initiatives to senior management.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Minimum of 7–10 years of progressive experience in transportation and logistics management, preferably in construction, manufacturing, or facade/architectural systems industries.
  • Associates degree in transportation or logistics management, supply chain and or a combination of education and experience.
  • Experience with ERP systems (e.g., Acumatica, SAP, Oracle) and logistics management software preferred.
  • Proven track record in negotiating freight and logistics contracts and managing 3PL relationships.

Salary Range: $100,000 – 125,000

Location: NYC or Hartford, CT

Schedule: Monday – Friday 8:00am – 5:00pm – On site

ADA Requirements: The position requires the ability to sit or stand for extended periods while using a computer, along with sufficient manual dexterity to operate computers, mobile devices, and related IT equipment. The role may occasionally involve lifting or moving equipment weighing up to 25 pounds, as well as bending, crawling, or climbing—such as accessing under desks or server racks. Candidates must possess the ability to concentrate, troubleshoot, and solve problems in a fast-paced environment, demonstrating strong verbal and written communication skills. The role also demands effective task prioritization, management of multiple simultaneous support requests, and a capacity to quickly learn and adapt to evolving technologies and tools.
