Unit Overview: Acuity Adaptable Unit - IU Health Tipton Hospital

Our acuity adaptable unit is a unique care environment that supports medical-surgical, progressive care, and limited critical care patients-all within a single flexible space. With an average daily census of 8 patients, our unit adjusts seasonally to meet the needs of our rural community. Nurses here are cross-trained to manage a wide range of acuity levels, making this an ideal setting for those who thrive in a dynamic, team-based environment.

Due to the rural setting, our team operates with limited resources, requiring strong clinical judgment, adaptability, and collaboration. You'll work closely with a dedicated interdisciplinary team including nurses, patient care assistants, case managers, physicians, pharmacists, and dietitians-all committed to delivering high-quality, patient-centered care.

Nursing Skills Gained:

  • Care for a diverse patient population across multiple acuity levels.
  • Develop strong clinical assessment and prioritization skills.
  • Gain experience in rural health nursing, including resource management and creative problem-solving.
  • Participate in interdisciplinary rounding and care planning.

Qualifications 

  • Requires 1 year RN experience.

  • Requires an Associates of Nursing (ASN); Bachelor of Nursing (BSN) preferred.

  • Requires an active Registered Nurse (RN) license in the state of Indiana or an active Nurse Licensure Compact (NLC) RN license.

  • Requires that the RN has graduated from a nationally accredited nursing program.

  • Requires Basic Life Support certification through the AHA.

  • Other advanced Life Support certifications may be required per unit/department specialty according to patient care policies.
